Prelim List of Stations on Bangalore’s Silk Board – KR Puram Line Released
Last week, Bangalore’s Development Minister K. J. George held a review meeting with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.’s Managing Director to discuss the status of city’s under construction and new metro lines. One of the new lines discussed was the upcoming Silk Board – KR Puram line (Phase 2A) which will run elevated along the eastern half of the Outer Ring Road with a track length of roughly 18 kms.
K.J. George’s office tweeted out some images from the meeting which included a map of the line’s alignment along with the stations proposed. The tweet has since then been deleted (wonder why?), but thanks to web caching services, the map has been retrieved.
Stations are proposed at Silk Board Junction, HSR Layout (Teacher’s Colony), Agara Lake, Agara Junction, Ibbalur Junction, Devarabisanahalli, RMZ Infotech/Ecospace, New Horizon College, Kadubeesanahalli, Manjunatha Nagar, Marathahalli Junction, Ashwath Nagar, Chinnappanahalli, Infosys, Mahadevpura, B Narayanapura & KR Puram. Out of these, the Marathahalli Junction station is expected to be designed keeping in mind the proposed Marathahalli – Hosakerehalli line in Phase 3.
I must note that this is merely a preliminary list of stations. While the line’s DPR will identify the final list, a far more accurate picture and count of stations will appear once the BMRCL invites tenders for the line’s construction which I estimate would happen no sooner than 2018 or even 2019.

Current Status – October 2016
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the line is under preparation and the BMRCL recently awarded two survey & investigative contracts for which bids were invited in June. When ready, the data captured from these exercises will be put together in the DPR and presented to the Karnataka Government’s cabinet for its approval with an estimate cost of building the line.

On the financial side of things, the line will be funded through what the BMRCL calls an “innovative funding model” and as per a recent report in the Bangalore Mirror, many corporate leaders agreed to volunteer and contribute up to Rs 2000 crore to the project. As per the ORR Companies Association’s president:
Two senior members of the ORRCA governance team attended the meeting where the PPP model for the exclusive metro line to ORR was discussed. The industry has committed to fund the project only because the government has assured that it will be fast-tracked. Also, to keep it fast-paced, a committee will be formed comprising industry representatives and officials, whereonce in a fortnight, the work will be reviewed. Once the project kicks-off, depending on the model, we may have developers and investors also pitching in funds and this line can be made operational on a Build Operate Transfer [BOT] basis.
The modalities of funding the line are still being worked out and this will be a time consuming exercise for a project as large as this. For something that was just announced earlier this year, I’d say things are moving along nicely with the stakeholders taking active interest to push it through.

I see potential for bunching up and relocating some stations to save cost. Eg Belandur Central Mall and RMZ Infotech ; Rainbow and ISKON. The rest seem fine.
I feel that construction in Marathalli area will be a huge challenge ,The metro seams to go over the ” Marathalli Bridge” which is famous for traffic jam.It will be very difficult to construct the station as it seams to be on the old airport road ( probably right on top of Marathalli bridge) so that it can connect the future old airport line too .
As per newspapers , about a million people use this section of Outer ring road daily.We can expect huge traffic jam for next two years.During the construction time the road will effectively become four lane from six lane.
Temporary road diversion for two years is needed else we will see traffic jam for several kilometers
IIRC, the traffic block in Marathahalli junction is not entirely due to heavy traffic(yes, it is also a factor) but also due to bus stops there. Buses stop there haphazardly occupying 2 lanes on either side. This is also leading to traffic congestion there

Where is Infosys in ORR? Or is this one of the “innovative financing options” – station names of sponsors?
Otoh, By the time this line is built in the next 4 years will Infosys still be a such a big name, seeing the way the big IT services companies are struggling to maintain growth?
this is the reason why they have stalled Peripheral ring road PRR. once these politician lands are fully developed they will start PRR road !!! See how far the links are 🙂
And the next point is if u see on the left side of this metro line from HSR layout till marathahalli no residential layouts are there or any comercial buildings. Just to get value for Ecospace and Bagmane which are politicians land they are doing this!!!
i agree the bellandur lake is so huge where no one is living !!!
There are 1000s of people working in Ecospace and Bagmane and that alone justifies the Metro (which is very important as a commute option). Traffic is so much of a problem that people cannot get out of Ecospace onto the road (let alone to the destination). And there are upcoming residences areas near Iblur. Also, Iblur station will help people going towards Sarjapur.
I do not understand about PRR comment – probably I’m ignorant to the references and plans. But, anyway Metro lines should take precedence over Ring road any given day.

They have stalled PRR beacuse if that road comes up behind outer ring road property prices will go down on ORR.
Thank you Brahman for the link. It is useful. Whatever the reason for stalling the project, both are very much required for Bangalore -and more. Sad such political motives are taking precedence over a city that’s slowly dying due to traffic and pollution.
Can loop lines be made at RV station & Silkboard station so that metro trains can be run from BIEC to K R Puram and electronic city via silk board without a change over at RV road station & silk board station
& also there would be a direct connectivity from marathalli & silk board to majestic
