Simplex Emerges Lowest Bidder for Ahmedabad’s Shreyas-Ranip Stretch
The missing middle piece of Ahmedabad Metro’s 18.522 km north-south line connecting Motera with Gyaspur has finally been filled. On this past Friday, Simplex Infrastructures emerged as the lowest bidder for the elevated line’s 8.94 km Shreyas – Ranip stretch after the Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar & Ahmedabad (MEGA) opened the financial bids submitted by different infrastructure companies for its construction. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has also approved Simplex’s appointment and MEGA will now hand over the Letter of Award (LoA) to Simplex within the next 2 weeks.
MEGA had invited bids for the construction of this ‘mid-section’ package in February 2016 and only 2 firms, Simplex Infrastructure and Afcons Infrastructure, qualified through the pre-qualification & technical bid stages, and onward to the (last) financial bid stage. Whenever the financial bid values are available, I’ll update this post.

This stretch consists of 6 elevated stations at Paldi, Gandhigram, Old High Court (Interchange with the 20.737 km East-West line), Usmanpura, Vijaynagar and Vadaj. Interestingly, Simplex Infrastructures will also be tasked with constructing a vehicular underpass at Paldi Station.

Ground-work is expected to begin in March and I expect this section to open no sooner than 2022.
With this news, now only 1 more contractor is left to be assigned on the entire north-south line:

Construction Status of Ahmedabad Metro’s Phase 1

Hi, for that to happen, the civil structure of the stations need to be ready by the end of this year. At this time, I haven’t seen construction work to build even the concourse level start at any of the stations. Still a long way to go.

What about the vadaj to ranip metro project.. is there any change on brts bus stands??
Not that I know of. But looking at how, this line overlaps with the BRTS line, they might relocate some of them for better interconnections. Let’s see.
