[Videos] Speed Trials Conducted on Bangalore Metro’s Green Line

On the morning of May 5, engineers from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) and the Research Design & Standards Organisation (RDSO) launched 3-day ‘speed trials’ on the 42.30 km Phase 1 project’s pending 12 km section of the Green Line, between Sampige Road – Yelachenahalli, in order to obtain a speed certificate from the RDSO.

Four trains were fitted with transducers & sensors, and were operated at varying speeds between 10 kmph – 80 kmph (max design speed) with different weights to assess their performance and interaction with the line’s infrastructure. Besides conducting oscillation tests, data on parameters such as the trains’ braking distance at different speeds & gradients as well as the efficiency of the third rail were recorded.

The RDSO’s team will now prepare its draft test report and obtain sign-offs from various directorates. If the trains’ performance is found to be satisfactory, then in the coming weeks, they will issue a speed certificate to the BMRCL.

This week, a 3rd party Independent Safety Assessor (ISA), most likely Organisme de certification ferroviaire which is 1 of 5 ISA firms approved by RDSO, will conduct a final inspection of the line’s signalling system and integration of the train control system with the Operation Control Centre located at the Baiyappanahalli Depot. Once approved, their certificate along with the RDSO’s speed certificate will be included within the BMRCL’s application and sent to the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for conducting the line’s final inspection.

Looks metro is serious at least now to conduct trial run and this took four years .
May God save metro and an award to Bangaloreans for the patience.Opening in bits and pieces looks like a joke.let metro clear the road barricades first.

Entire menu and bid info can be viewed here.

On a different note, CMRS inspection dates will be decided after signalling report is sent & reviewed and Chickpet’s fire inspection.
