CMRS Inspects Bangalore Metro’s Peenya Depot & Byp’halli OCC

The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety, KA Manoharan, and his team today carried out further inspections of Bangalore Metro’s Peenya Depot and Baiyapanahalli Operations Control Centre as part of the 12 km Sampige Road – Yelachenahalli section’s final round of safety inspections. These two visits were originally planned to take place on May 31, but delays in inspection which started creeping in on May 30 itself forced the CMRS to carry out inspections on an additional unplanned day.

With this, the CMRS’ inspection is now truly complete and the team plans to submit their report on Monday:

Our team has inspected the entire corridor and inspected each metro station. On Thursday, we will inspect the control room and others. BMRCL authorities told us they would take two to three days to complete the pending works at Chickpet metro station. We have compiled the data required and are going through it. On Monday, we will provide our findings to the BMRCL

Meanwhile, here are some tweets on Chickpet and KR Market stations:

Hats off to the people running this Blog/Site. Since this is such an important part of lifeline of Blore, its just great to come to this site to know the progress. You guys are doing a fantastic job. Currently in Canada (left nine months back) and hoping to return to namma bengaluru bu end of 2018, knowing these updates is great. Thanks a lot guys.

Thank you, TMRG for the updates. Chickpet station is looking good. With these kinds of public art and infrastructure developments (the Metro, Tendersure roads, Pillar gardens etc.) Bengaluru will be at par with international standards. Except for the traffic congestion, of course (and better civic sense will not be misplaced either).

So TMRG, for once are you taking back your predictions of this line opening in Q4 2017? What do you think went right for them to open up 3-6 months earlier than what you had predicted?

      TMRG is always right.

Some of the work in underground station of chickpet is pending .Even though the line will open but if you consider all the civil work finishing as end day then it will happen only after few more months.

TMRG gave an estimated time of 1st Qrtr-2018 based on full completion including stations. However, BMRC (& also Chennai metro) are opening sections even before completing all station works since metro constructions are already far behind schedules.

But in this instance, BMRC has really stepped up the gas pedal & done things fast & it looks like they may even finish all pending station works by Aug-Sep. The line may even open by end-June or early July, which is a good 6-9 months ahead of what TMRG had said. So, for once, it can be said that BMRC is well ahead of TMRG’s estimate.

The thing to note here is that an estimate of a final completion time may not entirely be predictable by the metro authorities as they depend on so many other agencies besides facing unforeseen obstacles that may creep up. Lets be fair – it really isn’t possible to factor in every unforeseen roadblock though factoring in the most probable ones & allowing for them can be done.

Hi, not sure where you got “6-9 months” from, but I’ve largely stuck to a Q4 opening (here & on Twitter) with only one instance of 2018 when Chickpet Station’s images became available. That station is largely incomplete and I hear BMRCL is snatching cell phones when people try to take photos.

That said, my thoughts on this topic can be seen below in response to Muthu’s original comment.

TMRG, no issues! Estimates are just that – “estimates”, after all. And your estimates have always been spot on & far more reliable than others for sure.
But only this once, BMRC seems ahead due to the reasons outlined by you in your post of 5th below (addressed to Muthu).

          • TESTING says:

Why should they snatch, cell phones when photos are taken.

They are afraid of public backlash, when they see no construction.

      • TMRG says:

Krishnan – you’ve got the right idea about Chickpet & the project’s overall progress.

That said, this isn’t about being right or wrong, but about trying to make sense of what’s going on in a toxic environment where the BMRCL & state govt refuse to provide realistic target dates or a complete picture of the progress made despite knowing what’s achievable and what’s not.

I leave posts open to discussions and for people to form their own opinions through the images I share. Some people agree with what I say, some don’t and that’s perfectly fine.

I guess 2 by-election wins boosted the confidence of the current govt and did the trick. Niddheramaiah woke up pulling all stops as election is around the corner. I see all inner roads are being laid at least around BG Road and Rs5 water dispenser outlets opened in many places. Also Indira canteen will be opened in one or two months. I am very glad that at least this coming year this govt will be active and things will move fast. Silk board junction huge trees are also knocked down in a day for Metro. Whitefiled road also demolition also started (my office compound wall already pulled down). I wish election is conducted every 4 years.

Muthu, there’s nothing to “take back” here. For anyone who’s closely followed the project, they’ll know that the books will be closed only in Q4 or 2018. Chickpet Station is still not in a working condition and will open up with bare minimum facilities – perhaps with only 1 entrance.

That said, I’m not sore about it opening before Q4. Instead, I’m quite happy how things have panned out over the past couple of months. BMRCL will soon achieve all key objectives of the project and that’s all that matters at this time. Possible reasons for rapid progress: (1) BMRCL pressuring contractors to aim for the April 2017 deadline even though it wasn’t possible and (2) media stepping up its game and asking the right questions about exterior visual site conditions (3) political pressure to get work completed asap.

Hi, certificate is expected “by” June 10 & not on June 10.

TOI merely tried to say it’ll be given by the end of this week.

    pls read this: http://www.deccanherald.com/content/615709/safety-checks-metros-n-s.html

Pradeep Singh Kharola, MD, BMRCL, said, “The Chickpet and K R Market stations have four entrances each. If given permission, we can operate three in each station from tomorrow itself.”

He said the fourth at K R Market would be done within a month. “Work on the fourth entrance at Chickpet station will take two months,” he explained.

He wouldn’t commit to a date to begin operations, though.
