Kochi Metro Starts Trial Runs to Maharaja’s College Station

The Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. this morning started trial runs (testing) on the 25.6 km Line-1’s second stretch of 4 km from the JLN Stadium to the upcoming Maharaja’s College Station. A single train was operated at speeds of up to 10 kmph, and the project’s engineers from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) & Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) primarily observed its interaction with the line’s civil structure to ensure there are no physical obstructions along the way. The signalling system of this section is still being configured, so the train was operated manually.

Since the Palarivattom Station is in commercial use, testing commenced from the JLN Stadium Station where a train was brought and stationed on Thursday night. When testing begins between these two adjacent stations in the coming weeks, then 5 kms of route length will effectively be under the ‘testing’ stage.

This new section of the line runs on Banerjee Road and MG Road, and once operational will extend the 13 km operational line deep into the city center through 5 new stations at JLN Stadium, Kaloor, Lisie, MG Road and Maharaja’s College –

Here’s a recent tweet with images showcasing Maharaja’s College Station where finishing works are underway –

During Line-1’s inauguration in June, KMRL’s MD Elias George mentioned they’re targeting to wrap up this section’s pending work and testing by October 2017.

    Hi

I am regular follower of your blog and the work you are doing to bring in transparency in execution of metro related work is awesome!

If you don’t mind, do update the ‘Quick Snapshot’ page whenever you get time. I guess lot of things have changed since that page was last updated.
