MahaMetro Invites Bids for Pune Metro’s TBM Shafts & Swargate Stn

So back on January 10, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation kick-started the process to appoint contractors for building the 5.019 km underground section of Pune Metro’s 16.589 km Line-1 between PCMC and Range Hills.

Oddly enough, they’ve first invited bids for the construction of just two tunnel boring machine (TBM) shafts at Agricultural College and Swargate, and for the construction of the underground Swargate Station. This civil package doesn’t include any tunneling work at all.

Tender documents were on sale between January 11 and February 7, and the last date to submit bids was February 7 at 4 pm. MahaMetro hasn’t provided an estimated cost, but would like work to be completed within 104 weeks of awarding the contract.

MahaMetro is currently in talks with the European Investment Bank (EIB) for a 600 million Euro (approx. Rs. 4793 crore) loan as well as the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) for another 245 million Euro (approx. Rs. 1957 crore) loan for financing the procurement of the metro project’s systems as well as the construction of the above underground section. When the terms of those deals are finalized, it is expected that MahaMetro will invite bids for the construction of the twin tunnels, stations (at Shivaji Nagar, Civil Court, Budhwar Peth and Mandai) and all other associated allied structures.

1.The shivajinagar metro station is at greater distance from Shivajinagar railway station. It should have been close to Shivajinagar station so that people from Mumbai/Lonavala, can alight at shivajinagar to board metro to Swargate.
    2. Metro should be extended from Swargate to Katraj, PCMC to Nigdi and Ramwadi to Wagholi for overall better connectivity.
