Tata Projects Launches 1st Segment for Ahmedabad Metro’s Reach-2

This past weekend, workers from the Tata Projects Ltd – China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (TPL – CCECC) JV launched their first 48 ton precast segment near Doordarshan Kendra for building the 8.21 km Thaltej Gam – West Ramp ‘Reach-2’ section of Ahmedabad Metro’s 20.737 km Line-1.

This construction milestone was accomplished by TPL-CCECC a little over 12 months after they won a Rs. 721 crore contract for constructing this section by the Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) in January 2017. Piling work to build this section’s foundation began in May 2017 along Drive-in Road, and the first pier to support the line’s viaduct was cast in October. With this development, segment launching work has now commenced on all 4 legs or ‘reaches’ of the 39.259 km Phase 1 project.

Besides the elevated viaduct & crucial bridge over the Sabarmati River, the TPL-CCECC JV is responsible for constructing 7 stations at Thaltej Gam, Thaltej, Doordarshan Kendra, Gurukul, Gujarat University, Commerce Six Road and Stadium Circle –

Each package’s challenges are different – in some cases the contractor has a somewhat clear right-of-way to start work, while in others a large quantity of utilities first need to be rehabilitated. In any case, here are some dates and numbers for a simple comparison –

      Reach-1 – J Kumar
      contract awarded: Feb 2015
      1st segment: Feb 2016 (1 year)

      Reach-2 – Tata
      contract awarded: Jan 2017
      1st segment: Feb 2018 (1 year 1 month)

      Reach-3 – IL&FS
      contract awarded: Nov 2015
      1st segment: Dec 2016 (1 year 1 month)

      Reach-4 – Ranjit
      contract awarded: Jan 2016
      1st segment: April 2017 (1 year 3 months)

How could have IL&FS launched first segment in Dec 2016. I guess you meant 2017.

Nope, 2016. Contract to IL&FS was awarded in Nov 2015, ground breaking was in Jan 2016, and the 1st segment was launched in Dec 2016. Nothing outlandish or bizarre about this timeline.

its strange to plan to do work in such narrow route from H.L. COMM. SIX ROAD TO STADIUM ROUTE. how without thinking they started barricade and in between cut out which are practically accident
prone zone. its purely planners wrong manage without supervise or site visit. only 3 meter wide road and near interval opening of society s entrances. daily accident occures near Terrace apartment entrance.
no concave glass at cut out either skew barricade so entry from opposite direction can easily pass. how can society visitor park their vehicale. even its next to impossible for fire brigade or emergency vehicle can move out. cut out near samved hospital is very crucial. small temple and barricade so close so difficult to pass.
may be in next coming days society members will remove barricade and take strong action against barricade system and cutouts..Project can. be stop by near by society.
