(Pics) Delhi Metro’s New Pink Line Stations Ready for Operations

With the launch of the 21.565 km Majlis Park – Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus section of Delhi Metro’s new 58.59 km Pink Line (Line-7) just two days away, here’s a picture-post with a bunch of images shot over the past 10 days.

All elevated stations on this line are 140m long, and have been designed to be a lot more spacious and curvier than the stations built in Phase 1 and Phase 2. The stations are equipped with platform screen doors for safety and have a wider platform in the middle but taper towards either ends, which supposedly led to a reduction in land acquisition during the formative stage of the project. The DMRC claims the stations have been designed and constructed as ‘green buildings’ with specific provisions for the conservation of energy as well as better CO2 saving, water saving and waste management arrangements – see more on that here.

The first section includes 12 stations (8 elevated and 4 underground) at Majlis Park, Azadpur (interchange with Yellow Line), Shalimar Bagh, Netaji Subhash Place (interchange with Red Line), Shakurpur, Punjabi Bagh West, ESI Hospital, Rajouri Garden (interchange with Blue Line), Mayapuri, Naraina Vihar, Delhi Cantonment and South Campus –

Press Brief

The DMRC today took journalists on a ride of the new line. Here’s a cheat-sheet prepared for them which lists out the line’s features and train operations plan – basically everything you need to know. Tomorrow’s papers are expected to feature articles with the following text recycled and reworded –

        SUKHMAN this proves nothing . Delhi gets these benefits only because it is the capital . Even after having such a huge and extensive network it’s ridership per kilometer is much lower than most cities of the world . Mumbai is much better than delhi anyday . Atleast people don’t have to worry about getting mauled to death or raped . After 11 pm even men are at risk if they are alone at night . That’s delhi for you . Mumbai’s growth is authentic , Delhi is on steroids

          Why don’t you check the crime figures of Bombay before making baseless comments. Infrastructure, overall cleanliness and modern design are far better in Delhi. Crime, civic sense and littering are same across India but Delhi is much cleaner than Bombay. Despite being rich, Bombay hasn’t spent the money or effort in having world class infrastructure.

            Dont fight guyz..both the cities are in India only. They have their good and bad things. Delhi metro is pride of nation, not just delhi.

      Never going to happen in bombay because the ppl their are of chawl mentality and cant relate to aesthetics . Look at some of the comments here. They are happy to live in the yearly floods or garbage piled up ;
      See the general state of disrepair and discolourization of the buildings. Bombay is a massive slum , no need to throw waste money it , already has the richest municipality in asia but worse than bangladesh. Cheers.

    Looks like they are planning to run half of the trains in short loops between South Campus and Shakurpur. This is not needed as the line is not that long. Even red line which is longer than this section doesn’t run trains in short loops. Your thoughts TMRG?

      Yeah found that to be odd. Maybe rejig it after looking at ridership stats and footfalls at each station.

    I would prefer an automate people mover (APM) @DhaulaKuan-SouthCampus instead of this 900m long walkway.

    ..similar to Singpore LRT or Kuala Lumpur Int airport’s air-train which runs on track lenght of 1.2km.

      Nice examples. With the current setup, it’ll easily take 20 mins from platform-concourse-walkway-concourse-platform which is bound to put-off a large section of commuters.

    Any chance of a connection to the Green line soon? Looks like a glaring mistakes not to provide any interchange with green line while DPR was made.

      No chance.

      In addition to what Sushant said, a walkway was planned between Punjabi Bagh West and Shivaji Park, but that was put on-hold sometime last year for reasons unknown to me.

        So as of now commuters have to walk to either P.bagh or Shivaji Park from p.b.west station. Hope they at least provide some covered paved walkway at ground level till a proper fob with travelator is built.
