TBM S79 Commissioned for Pune Metro towards Agriculture College Shaft

On Sunday afternoon, workers from Gülermak – Tata Projects Limited JV commissioned their second Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) S79, nick-named ‘Mula’, at the Range Hills Ramp towards the Agriculture College Shaft for building a roughly 180m long portion of the down-line tunnel on the 16.589 km Line-1 between Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and Swargate.

This Ø6.61m 100m long Terratec EPB TBM completed factory acceptance tests in October 2019 and arrived on-site in December. On its its first leg, it will follow its sister-machine S78 “Mutha” which last week completed its journey in 24 days for building the up-line tunnel.

If the progress of S78 is anything to go by and things were as easy in the real-world, then S79 should complete its journey sometime around the end of this month.
