Terratec Completes Factory Testing 3rd & Final TBM for Pune Metro

Tunnel boring machine (TBM) manufacturer Terratec on January 11 completed factory acceptance tests (FAT) for the third and final new TBM at their Guangzhou facility in China which will be used to build a section of Pune Metro’s 16.589 km Line-1 tunnels.

Christened S81, this Ø6.61m earth pressure balance (EPB) TBM will first be deployed from the Swargate Shaft by Gülermak – Tata Projects Limited JV for exclusively building tunnels on package UGC-02 (Budhwar Peth – Mandai – Swargate Station – Swargate Shaft).

MahaMetro’s nickname for this TBM is unknown as this time. With FAT completed, it’ll will now be dismantled and shipped to Pune through Mumbai’s JNPT port, with an ETA at the Swargate Shaft site (see location on Google Maps) by February-end.

Meanwhile – on the northern section of the line, for UGC-01 – TBM S78 “Mutha” just made a breakthrough at the Agriculture College Shaft and is being prepared for its drive towards Shivaji Nagar. TBM S79 “Mula” was just commissioned from the Range Hills Ramp and is expected to arrive at the Agriculture College Shaft by the end of this month.
