Afcons Launches 1st Pier Cap for Kanpur Metro Line-1
Workers from Afcons Infrastructure on Monday morning erected the very first 9.6m wide pier cap for the 8.728 km elevated ‘Priority Corridor’ section of Kanpur Metro’s 23.785 km Line-1 connecting IIT-Kanpur and Naubasta.
This milestone was achieved at pier/pillar number 19 located between IIT Kanpur and the National Sugar Institute in Kalyanpur. Per the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRCL), a total of 295 piers for the viaduct and 198 piers for nine stations will be cast for the priority corridor (Package KNPCC-02R) between IIT-Kanpur and Motjiheel. Since casting the first pier in January, Afcons has as of February 28 cast a total of 42 piers and 10 pier caps.
Stations on the priority corridor will be located on NH34 (GT Road) at IIT Kanpur, Kalyanpur Railway Station, SPM Hospital, CSJM Kanpur University, Gurudev Chauraha, Geeta Nagar, Rawatpur Railway Station, Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital and Moti Jheel.

The pier cap was cast using molds provided by Winsteel Engineering Works at Afcons’ yard located at Government Polytechnic’s land. Here’s a snap of it when it was on its way to the yard –
