Sterling & Wilson Awarded Pune Metro’s UG TVS & ECS Contract

Sterling and Wilson Private Limited has been awarded with a turn-key contract by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) for commissioning the tunnel ventilation system (TVS) and environmental control system (EVS) for the 5.09 km underground section of Pune Metro’s 16.589 km Purple Line (Line-1).

Bids for this significant systems contract of the 31.254 km Phase 1 project were invited under contract P1/UGC03/2019 on January 8 2019 funded through a €245m loan (approx Rs 2000 cr) from France’s Agence Française de Développement (AfD).

MahaMetro’s updated website indicates the letter of award (LOA) was issued to Sterling and Wilson on March 12 2020 with a contract value of USD 1,027,116 and INR 276,02,65,754.

Brief Scope: Design, verification, supply, installation, testing and commissioning & comprehensive annual maintenance contract (CAMC) for 5 years of tunnel ventilation system (TVS), TVS-SCADA, Environmental Control System (ECS), ECS and E&M-SCAD, LV Power System in ASS for underground section (Shivaji Nagar, Civil Court, Budhwar Peth, Mandai and Swargate) of Pune Metro Project

These components are critical for passenger comfort and safety. The Tunnel Ventilation System (TVS) automatically lowers tunnel air temperature during normal and congested conditions as needed, and provides smoke management in tunnel during fire emergency. The Environmental Control System (ECS) supplies fresh air for the comfort of passengers and provides a cooling system for critical system rooms and smoke extraction at stations during emergencies.

Meanwhile, S78 “Mutha” operated by the Gülermak – Tata Projects Limited JV this week started to tunnel through the Shivaji Nagar Station box’s zone. The machine was re-commissioned in January 2020 from the College of Agriculture Shaft, and arrived at the Shivaji Nagar station earlier this month to record a “hidden” breakthrough as excavation for the station is still ongoing.
