Dilip Buildcon Wins Bangalore – Chennai Expressway’s Packages 1 & 2
March 5 Update: Dilip Buildcon has been issued LOAs for both packages
February 24 Original Post: Dilip Buildcon Ltd. today emerged as the lowest bidder for constructing the 260.85 km Bangalore – Chennai Expressway Phase 1’s Packages 1 and 2 after National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) opened financial bids.
Both packages (Bangalore – Malur and Malur – Bangarpet) are each 27.1 km long on the Bengaluru-end of the expressway and entirely within Karnataka.
This new Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) expressway was originally envisioned as an 8 lane access-controlled road from the get-go, but was downgraded to 4 lanes in mid-2020 keeping the projected traffic in mind. The feasibility reports suggests it will get saturated in 2029 (4 lane), 2037 (6 lane) and 2041 (8 lane). All structures (bridges, culverts etc.) will be built up to allow for 8 lanes in the future.
NHAI invited bids for both packages in September 2020 with a completion period / deadline of 730 days (2 years). Technical bids were opened on February 22 to reveal 11 bidders.
Here are the financial bid values of the lowest 5 technically-qualified bidders:
Phase 1 – Package 1
NHAI’s estimate: Rs 939.32 crore
Financial Bid Values:
Firm | Bid |
Dilip Buildcon | Rs. 1079.23 crore |
KMC | Rs. 1102.73 crore |
PNC | Rs. 1111.82 crore |
Montecarlo | Rs. 1112.72 crore |
IRCON | Rs. 1140.78 crore |
Brief Scope: Construction of 8 lane Bangalore – Chennai Expressway from Km 0.000 to Km 26.400 (along with 0.700km approach towards NH 207 with interchange on NH4 at start point) (Bangalore to Malur Section in the State of Karnataka under Bharatmala on Hybrid Annuity Mode (Phase I-Package I)
Phase 1 – Package 2
NHAI’s estimate: Rs. 1031.42 crore
Financial Bid Values:
Firm | Bid |
Dilip Buildcon | Rs. 1186.94 crore |
PNC | Rs. 1226.76 crore |
Montecarlo | Rs. 1246.68 crore |
DP Jain | Rs. 1280.51 crore |
IRB | Rs. 1290.76 crore |
Brief Scope: Construction of 8 lane Bangalore – Chennai Expressway from Km 26.400 to Km 53.500 (Malur to Bangarpet Section) in the State of Karnataka under Bharatmala on Hybrid Annuity Mode (Phase I-Package II)
Dilip Buildcon’s lowest bid for each package, especially #2, is way above NHAI’s estimate, so it remains to be seen if the contracts will be awarded or not. I haven’t actively tracked NHAI’s past record in awarding contracts for such cases, so I’m not sure if these are ripe for negotiations or will go into a retender.
NHAI in 2009 had appointed Egis – BCEOM International – SECON Pvt. Ltd. as this project’s consultants for preparing its feasibility and preliminary design report under NHDP Phase-VI.
The entire project has been divided up into 3 phases with a total of 10 sections / packages between Bangalore and Sriperumbudur near Chennai. This week I’m going to create a dedicated information page with a status of each. Once that’s done, I’ll link it right here, so do check back! Update: Here’s the link to the new page.
In case you missed it, I started tracking miscellaneous big-ticket contracts earlier this year and this fits right in. Other such posts can be viewed here.

Glad to hear that you’re … diversifying, I guess 😀
Anyway, I think the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and the DFCs will make good candidates for the new _others_ category!
🙂
2 DFCs are tendered out and already under construction. DPR prep work has started for some others, I believe. For Delhi – Mumbai Eway , I’m tracking the 90+ km JNPT spur section. Will set up a page for these projects as well under the ‘Misc’ menu bar item.
Three future dfc dpr contracts are awarded. For completion with in 15 months 2dfc, 18months 1dfc. As much as I remember aarvee cons got contract. Interm dpr to be submitted fr all dfc by dec to apply fr approvals by rly brd. Planning in ppp fr all future corridors
Thanks!
When it is not possible to track in detail, you can have something like a snapshot. All the projects that you cover, you can try to provide some quarterly / monthly status, like percent of work done, opening date etc..
Please let me know your website for tracking.

Will this highway have service lanes on both sides? (2+2)
Haven’t heard/read about a provision for that.
Hi sir,
Can you share route map Bangalore to Chennai route map
The one shown in the following link is the only one I have access to:
https://themetrorailguy.com/nhai-bangalore-chennai-expressway-information-route-map-status/
The starting point for BC express Highway should be from Hope/o form circle , Whitefield. Bangalore East
If any one interested having a site for long term investment please reach out me. I have a site in Malur, due to some personal issues. No existing loan, clear title bought from sizzle properties 30*40 site
Hello, thank you for sharing useful information on this project! Would you know if there is a connection from Malur town to get onto the expressway (towards both sides – Hoskote and Chennai)? Or are the interchanges merely to cross the expressway onto the other side?
