Linxon Begins Third Rail Installation for Kolkata Metro’s Line-6

Linxon India in early-June began installing the 750 V Third Rail electrification system for Kolkata Metro’s 29.87 km Line-6 which will connect New Garia (Kavi Subhash) to NSCBI Airport (Biman Bandar) via 24 stations.

Linxon was awarded Line-6’s traction and electrification contract in 2019 by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) for its 5.4 km New Garia (Kavi Subhash) – Hemanta Mukherjee section. The scope of that contract also included power supply for Line-3’s Joka Depot and Line-3’s Joka – Taratala section, where installation work began in May-end.

Some snaps from Satyajit Ray Station shared by Line-6’s site manager Yogendra Gautam and site engineer Nishant Gupta:

The Third Rail being installed is made of steel-aluminum composite to extend its longevity and reduce maintenance. The team plans to complete installation work in Q4 this year.

Back in April, KEC – Siemens JV beat Larsen & Toubro to win the 750 V DC third rail traction system’s Package 3 and 4 of Line-3 (Taratala-Mominpur section) and Line-6 (Hemendra Mukherjee – Airport section).
