September 30 Update: NHAI has issued contract LOA to GR Infraprojects

August 7 Original Post: GR Infraprojects (GRIL) on Friday emerged as the lowest bidder to construct Package 1 of the 91 km Ludhiana – Rupnagar Expressway (NH-205K), after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) opened financial bids.

This 6 lane greenfield access-controlled project in Punjab with 3 packages will connect Manewal village on the Delhi – Katra Expressway (NE-5) with Bheora village near Rupnagar (Ropar). It will also feature an additional 25 km spur to Kharar, just east of Chandigarh and Mohali.

Package 1 is 37.7 km long and lies on the project’s western-end. NHAI invited tenders for its construction in mid-January 2021 with a Rs. 846.31 crore estimate and 2 year deadline. Technical bids were opened in July to reveal 12 bidders.

Brief Scope: Construction of Four/Six lane Greenfield Ludhiana – Rupnagar National Highway no. NH-205K from junction with NE-5 village near to Manewal (Ludhiana) to junction with NH-205 near Bheora Village (Rupnagar) including spur to Kharar with Ludhiana bypass under Bharatmala Pariyojana in the State of Punjab on Hybrid Annuity Mode, Package-1 (Section from Design Ch. 0.000 To Design Ch. 37.700, total length 37.700 km)

This expressway with 3 packages has been designed with a 60m ROW (right of way) at an estimated cost of Rs. 2792 crore. More design details and a list of its packages can be viewed here.

Technical bids for Package 2 (10 bidders) and Package 3 (16 bidders) were also opened in July and financial bids should be opened anytime in the 2nd half of this month.

      Next steps are contract award (LOA), recruitment, mobilization of men/machinery and start of work.

      I don’t track land acquisition progress, so no idea where that currently stands.
