Mumbai – Ahmedabad Bullet Train’s Bridge Over Ahmedabad Metro Tunnels Assembled
Zetwerk on a subcontract from Larsen & Toubro – IHI Infrastructure Systems Consortium this week completed trial assembly on a 100 meter long open web girder (OWG) bridge for 508.17 km Mumbai – Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR Bullet Train) project.
This single-span steel bridge for GAD 2357 of MAHSR’s Package P4 (X & Y) weighs 1089 MT, stands 15 meters tall and is 15 meters wide.
The bridge will be launched over Ahmedabad Metro Blue Line’s curving underground twin tunnels, between MAHSR’s chainage 500.316 and 500.416, just north of Kalupur Metro Station and the upcoming Ahmedabad Bullet Train Station (view on Google Maps).
Trial assembly and inspection for it was performed at Zetwerk’s facility located in Narayanpur, just south of Wardha, in Maharashtra.
National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHRCL) had awarded Larsen & Toubro – IHI Infrastructure Systems Consortium with Package P4 X & Y’s Rs 1389.70 crore contract in January 2021. Their scope involves fabricating and transporting 28 steel truss bridges requiring an estimated 70865 MT of steel.
L&T – IHI went on to subcontract 10,000 MT of fabricated girders to Zetwerk in April 2022 with a contract value of Rs. 126.55 crore.
An anti-rust primer is expected to be applied before the girder is dismantled and transported. Looking at other recent OWG launches, I reckon we’re at least 12 months away from seeing seeing this bridge being launched into its final position.
Last month, Karbonsteel Engineering completed trial assembly on the first 100 meter span of 230m GAD-15 bridge over the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) located at chainage 333+5 – see details and pics.

Hey TMRG
any updates about rolling stock?
Hi – nope. This is a closed-tender (Japanese RS suppliers were directly issued tender notice & docs), so it’s been difficult to track where it currently stands.
So this means it is STILL NOT AWARDED 😭😭
SO we are atleast 2 years away from seeing the actual train arrival in india ! RIGHT??? 😭
