4 Bidders for Bengaluru Suburban Rail Corridor 2’s Track Work

Four firms (one in a consortium) today submitted bids for the track laying contract of the 149.35 km Bengaluru Suburban Rail project (BSRP)’s 23.86 km Corridor 2 connecting Baiyyappanahalli – Chikkabanavara.

This contract’s scope for Mallige Line or Line-2 involves supplying and installing ballastless tracks and other track elements (fastening system & turnouts) on its elevated viaduct which is under construction by Larsen & Toubro (L&T). It also involves installing ballasted tracks at Soladevanahalli Depot in north-western Bengaluru.

Karnataka’s Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) had invited tenders for this contract in August 2024 with a Rs. 102.24 crore estimate and 2 year deadline. Technical bids were opened today to reveal the following 4 bidders.

Bidders

  • Apurvakriti Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd.
  • Rahee Infratech Ltd.
  • Sumcon – PPMPPL JV
  • Texmaco Rail and Engineering Ltd.

KRIDE’s Brief Scope: Design, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Ballastless, Ballasted Track, Fastening System and Turnouts in Corridor 2 from Benniganahalli to Chikkabanavara including Ballasted and Special Tracks in Soladevanahalli Depot

All 4 bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

L&T in September 2022 was awarded Line-2 viaduct’s construction contract – the very first civil package of the entire project. A list of all packages and their status can viewed here.

On a side-note, my tunneling industry sources have confirmed ITD Cementation will tomorrow afternoon record 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2‘s final tunnel breakthrough at Nagawara’s South Shaft. That breakthrough by TBM Bhadra (S-840B) will be the 26th and final one for the 21.38 km Pink Line (Kalena Agrahara – Nagawara). Stay tuned!

    Hi TMRG,

Would you happen to have a Google maps route alignment of the suburban rail project? Would be cool to see it’s exact route 🙂

    Thanks,
    Shan

Hi, I haven’t made one as I’m unsure of its routing through some specific neighborhoods. It is on my mind though

Great news about the Pink line…wonder how many more months will they need for the electrical, track & signalling work? And whether BEML will be ready to provide trains for testing in synch with that deadline unlike TRSL right now

Probably another 10 years. Karnataka infrastructure projects normally takes 5 to 6 times stipulated time to complete the contract

Taking estimates from the underground Line-3 of the Mumbai Metro, they achieved 100% tunneling in December 22, and opened operations in Oct 24, so 2 years

For pink line similar can be expected, as Bangalore also has issues with acquiring rolling stock (lol, even the suburban routes have the same issue)
If all goes smoothly (which hardly ever happens outside of Delhi), expect 1.5yrs for electrical – subsystems – signaling – elevators – finishing… which brings the deadline to June 2026

For Bangalore the future looks something like this
      2025 : Bommasandra Yellow Line
      2026 : Pink Line
2027 : Partial Blue Line (either Silk Board to KR Pura or KR Pura to KIA)

Suburban projects are very difficult to follow, mired with slow progress, stemming from bureaucracy within the IR, as seen with other suburban projects in Mumbai as well….
