Indicative alignment of Kharagpur – Siliguri Economic Corridor in West Bengal – via Swarajya

Except for Package 4, the lowest bids for the others (P1, P3, P5) were higher than NHAI’s estimate and will head straight to the negotiation table, although I’m not sure if there’s any wiggle room in Package 1 where Ashoka’s bid was a staggering 42.15% higher. NHAI will either have to cough up and meet Ashoka’s bid or retender the package out.

Per the government’s PIB release, this “new corridor will supplement the existing 2-lane National Highway to increase the traffic capacity by about 5 times between Kharagpur and Moregram. It will provide efficient connectivity for traffic between states such as West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh etc. on one end and North-Eastern part of the country on the other. The corridor will enable reduction in travel time from existing 9 to 10 hours to 3 to 5 hours for freight vehicles between Kharagpur and Moregram, thereby reducing logistics cost“.
