11 Bidders for Patna’s Bihta Airport’s Construction Contract

Eleven firms have submitted bids for the civil construction work of a new civil enclave at Bihta Air Force Station near Patna, Bihar after Airports Authority of India (AAI) opened technical bids on Friday.

Bihta Airport was approved by the Indian government’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in August 2024 with a total estimated cost of Rs.1413 crore. This new civil enclave at the Indian Air Force (IAF)’s base (view on Google Maps) will serve as Patna’s second airport and is located roughly 18 kms, as the crow flies, from Jayprakash Narayan International Airport.

Bihta Airport project includes construction of a new integrated terminal building and utility building with a 6-lane elevated road connecting to national highway NH-922.

The new 2-storey passenger terminal will have a built-up space of 34,346 sqm. It will be equipped with 6 aerobridges, 64 check-in counters, 6 baggage belts and be capable to handling 3000 Peak Hour Passengers (PHP).

The project also includes the construction of an apron with 10 parking bays suitable for A321 / B737 / A320 type aircraft, and two link taxiways. The IAF base’s runway will also be extended from 8000 feet to 12,000 feet as part of a separate contract.

AAI had invited tenders for its civil construction contract in September 2024 with a Rs. 665.85 crore estimate and 730 day (2 year) completion deadline.

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

As seen above there’s space for expanding the passenger terminal for doubling processing capacity to cater to one crore passengers per annum.

    Hey Metrorailguy, I noticed that your Bangalore Metro has not been update. Phase 3 has been approved by the Central Govt so it should lie under approved, however approved shows 0kms.
