Patel Infra Wins Nagpur – Gondia Expressway’s NG-2A Contract

Patel Infrastructure Ltd. on Monday was declared as the lowest bidder to construct 35.25 km Package NG-2A of 127 km Nagpur – Bhandara – Gondia Expressway project on EPC mode by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).

This 4 lane access-controlled highway project in eastern Maharashtra will connect Gavasi village on Nagpur’s Outer Ring Road (roughly 7 km from eastern terminal of the 701 km Mumbai – Nagpur Expressway) with village Sawari, located north of Gondia.

The expressway will be developed via 5 packages: NG-01, NG-02, NG-02A, NG-03 and NG-04. It has been designed with a 100 meter right-of-way (ROW) and a 120 kmph speed limit.

Package NG-2A in Bhandara District will connect km 58+850 (Thana Taluka) with km 94+100 (Jambhalpani in Mohadi Taluka). MSRDC had invited bids for its civil construction in July 2024 with a 2.5 year construction deadline and Rs. 1923.11 crore estimate. Technical bids were opened in September 2024 to reveal 4 bidders.

Financial Bid Values

FirmBid (Rs. Crore)

IRCON International Ltd.2440
Afcons Infrastructure Ltd.2507
PNC Infratech Ltd.2507

MSRDC’s Brief Scope: Construction of Nagpur Gondia Access Controlled Expressway in the State of Maharashtra on EPC Mode -PACKAGE NG-2A from km 58 850 Thana Tq. Bhandara to km 94 100 Jambhalpani. Tq. Mohadi Dist. Bhandara Length- 35.250 km

Patel Infra’s bid of Rs. 2420 crore was 25.83% higher than MSRDC’s estimate of Rs. 1923.11 crore, so this will head to straight to the negotiation table. It isn’t terribly high as seen in other recent MSRDC-owned contracts, so we should see a contract getting eventually awarded.

Package NG-2A is the final of 5 contracts to reach the financial bid opening stage – a list of all packages and their contractors/status can be viewed here.

Back in July 2024, Afcons Infrastructure and NCC were declared as the lowest bidders for packages NG-01, NG-02, NG-03 and NG-04, but I don’t believe contracts for construction have been awarded yet.

Anyhow, when completed Nagpur – Gondia Expressway is expected to reduce the travel time between both cities to about 2 hours from the current 4-5 hour journey.

Maharashtra’s government plans to develop an impressive 5000 km expressway network in the state. Nagpur – Gondia Expressway is displayed by number 2 below:
