Mumbai – Ahmedabad Bullet Train’s Bridge over NE-4 Completed by MGCPL

MG Contractors Pvt. Ltd. (MGCPL) this weekend completed building a 260 meter long balanced cantilever (CLC) bridge under Package P1(B) for the 508.17 km Mumbai – Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR Bullet Train) project.

This 4-span PSC bridge (GAD-1441) at chainage KM 297.287 has been built over the under construction Delhi – Mumbai Expressway (National Expressway NE-4). The completion of this bridge marks the completion of all five prestressed concrete (PSC) bridges in Gujarat – see details at the bottom of the post.

The bridge’s site is located west of Kosamba in Surat District between Surat and Bharuch Bullet Train stations – view satellite imagery on Google Maps.

Its structure consists of 5 piers (297P01, 297P02, 297P03, 297P04, 297P05) and has a 50m + 80m + 80m + 50m span configuration.

India’s National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL) had awarded Package P1(B)’s Rs. 549 crore contract to MGCPL in 2021. Their scope includes building 4 PSC bridges and 7 steel truss bridges within Larsen & Toubro’s 237.1 km Package C4 (Vadodara – Zaroli village on MH/GJ border).

With this development, 4 PSC bridges and 2 open web girder (OWG) bridges have been completed on Package P1(B) which includes 11 bridges. Here’s a list in chronological order:

• GAD-1134 (70m, 673 MT) – OWG over National Highway NH-53 near Surat in October 2023
• GAD-11 (260m) – PSC bridge over National Highway NH-48 at Amadpore in August 2024
• GAD-68 (100m, 1464 MT) – OWG over Bhilosa Switching Substation near Silvassa in August 2024
• GAD-10 (210m) – PSC bridge over National Highway NH-48 at Sasodra (October 2024)
• GAD-9 (210m) – PSC bridge over National Highway NH-48 at Vaghaldhara
• GAD-1441 (260m) – PSC bridge over National Expressway NE-4 at Kosamba (this post!)

Overall, GAD-1441 is the 5th and final PSC bridge in Gujarat to be completed after GAD-11, GAD-10, GAD-9 (all 3 over NH-48) and GAD-33 (over NH-64).
