HCC – TPL Begins Work for Indore Metro’s Underground Package IN-05R

Hindustan Construction Co. Ltd. – Tata Projects Ltd. (HCC – TPL JV) this week officially began secant piling work for Indore Metro Yellow Line‘s 8.626 km underground section connecting Indore Railway Station and Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport.

The launch of construction work at Indore Airport’s premises comes roughly 4 months after HCC – TPL JV was awarded a Rs. 2190.91 crore construction contract by contract Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MPMRCL).

HCC – TPL JV’s scope for underground Package IN-05R includes constructing twin tunnels and 7 underground stations located at Indore Railway Station, Rajwada, Chota Ganpati, Bada Ganpati, Ramchandra Nagar, BSF / Kalani Nagar, and Indore Airport.

Package IN-05R is the first and only underground package of the 33.53 km Indore Metro Phase 1 project. On the east-side, it will be connected to Package IN-04 (under construction by RVNL – URCC JV), and on the west-side it will be connected to Package IN-03 (under construction by URCC via a subcontract by RVNL).

HCC holds a 55% share (Rs. 1205 crore) in the joint-venture with Tata Projects holding the rest 45% (Rs. 986 crore).

HCC – TPL JV is required to deploy at least 4 tunnel boring machines (TBMs) for constructing 16 tunnels, and I hear Terratec will be supplying those machines. Their exact configuration (old versus refurbished) remains unknown to me.

At this point I see tunneling work starting no sooner than Q3 2026. With this development, construction work is now well underway on all 6 of the Yellow Line’s civil packages – see a list of all Indore Metro packages and their status / contractors over here.
