GDA Approves Delhi Metro Blue Line’s Extn to Sahibabad & Mohan Ngr
2020 Update: Both lines’ Detailed Project Reports were submitted to the Uttar Pradesh government for its approval in January 2020.
Original Post:
Earlier this month on February 5, the Ghaziabad Development Authority approved the detailed project report (DPR) for a 10.17 km elevated extension of both branches of the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line (Line-3 & Line-4) to connect up with Sahibabad and Mohan Nagar. The DPR estimates the project to cost Rs. 3711 crore, and was approved by GDA’s board & other district level government agencies without any changes or recommendations.
Back in April 2016, GDA’s board had approved & sanctioned Rs 1.09 crore to appoint the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for preparing the project’s DPR. The report was submitted by DMRC on February 1 with the following specifications –
Line-3 Extension: Noida Sector-62 (Electronics City) to Sahibabad
• Length: 5.11 km
• Stations: Vaibhav Khand, Indirapuram, Shakti Khand, Vasundhra Sector 5, Sahibabad (interchange)
• Estimated Cost: Rs 1926 crores
• Route: This extension of Line-3 will start from the under construction Electronic City Station, cross over NH-24 and head north along Mohan Nagar Link Road (CISF Road). Along the way, the line will cross above the Hindon Elevated Road at Kanawani Bridge in Indirapuram.
Line-4 Extension: Vaishali to Mohan Nagar
• Length: 5.06 km
• Stations: Prahlad Garhi, Vasundhara Sector 14, Sahibabad (interchange), Mohan Nagar (new station building will connect with Red Line’s Mohan Nagar Station)
• Estimated Cost: Rs 1785 crore
• Route: This extension of Line-4 will start from the existing Vaishali Station, head east on Madan Mohan Malviya Marg and connect up with the Red Line’s under construction Mohan Nagar Station.
With GDA’s approval now accorded, the DPR will now be sent to the state government for its approval where the funding pattern & source of funds will be decided. Whenever that key approval is received, both these extensions will take the 108.79 km Phase 4 project’s approved length to 118.96 km.

It would have been a lot better if: (All lines would have been more linear)
1. Blue line (noida section) extended only till Sector 71
2. Blue line (vaishali section) extended till Mohan Nagar
3. Aqua line extended till Sahibabad (maybe even till Rajendra Nagar on red line)
Future Note: Blue line line noida section could be further extended to Ghaziabad railway station and maybe govindpuram too.
For point 1&3, aqua line is going to make a loop in noida itself, so it was the blue line which had to be extended into indirapuram and further to sahibababd. This line will further move to rajendra nagar and merge with red line i guess
For point 2, it is already approved and is being executed as in the above article.
thanks for reply, what are plans of Noida metro extension from sec 71?
Noida blue line metro is going to meet vaishali line extension at sahibabad, whereas the noida aqua line will make a loop by going all the way down to eco village and knowledge park.

This link. The above link is wrong.
Thanks for info. would like to connect with you on twitter or through email.
In your link, it mentions a line from Kalindi Bird Sanctuary to Sec 143, that is waiting for approval. Never heard about that ,in the news nor here. Any details on that ?
I am not sure of that. I said about the loop because once tmrg also mentioned about the loop in one of his replies to my query. Not the line you mentioned. I shared the link just to give an idea.
Ghar tak hi na bna de aapke
And isnt the news a bit late tmrg?
Clearing out old updates on things which I missed out on.
The Sahibabad RRTS station is going to be far away from the sahibabad station of blue line.
Will both the noida and vaishali extension go to mohan nagar (just like they both go to dwarka after merging at yamuna bank), or only the vaishali extension will go to mohan nagar and noida extension will terminate at sahibabad and people will have to change train there?
Only the vaishali line extension will go forward to mohannagar. The noida line will be open to future projects.
I hope both extensions go to mohan nagar..it will be good for people of ghaziabad as they would not have to change train at sahibabad to go to noida. However I dont understand what future extension will be done for noida line…its already extended a lot. How far It will go from delhi. Its delhi metro after all.
It wont be feasible. You have a lot of space at yamuna bank. This is not the case here. And the noida extension may be extended beyond sahibBad into interior as that area is untouched. Red line extension is linear, so the noida line may be extended.
The same thing happens at ashok park main station on green line also. That station is also as big as yamuna bank station.
No details on that have been revealed. Hopefully they don’t make a T structure (like Indelok) with no room for a future extension.
Would appreciate if you could update on Noida sector 62 – sahibabad proposed metro route. Was there any decision made after submission of DPR in January 2020 ??
Hi, I haven’t heard or read anything on it since then. It’s a shame things are moving so slowly.
How much time shakti khand metro started?
