Crossovers Cast for Bangalore Metro’s Whitefield Extension
Workers from Texmaco Rail and Engineering have over the past 3 months cast 3 track crossovers for Bangalore Metro’s 15.257 km Reach 1A & 1B (Baiyyappanahalli – Whitefield) extension of the Purple Line.
A total of 6 crossovers with turnouts will be cast to enable the system’s BEML (and in the future CRRC) trains to guide from one track line to another when this extension opens up in 2023. The turnouts cast so far are located at:
- Pier No. 168-173: Garudacharpalya
- Pier No. 402-405 and 406-407: Pattandur Agrahara Station (earlier known as ITPL Station)
- Pier No. 471-474: Channasandra Station (earlier known as Ujjval Vidyalaya Station)
Snaps from different crossovers:
Track plinth casting works for this extension had started in January 2021, and per BMRCL’s latest December 2021 newsletter 18908 / 30500m was completed as of November 30, 2021.
ITD Cementation India launched Reach 1B’s final segment in November 2020. The only major gap on the Whitefield extension’s viaduct is on Reach 1A between Benniganahalli (Tin Factory) and Byappanahalli where land acquisition hurdles and design changes had put work on hold.
Twitter follower WF_Watcher recently shared snaps of steel girders getting launched over Benniganahalli Flyover – check them out here and some amazing aerial snaps of Kadugodi Depot here.
Station architectural finishing works are currently underway by Starworth Infrastructure & Construction as part of a 13 station contract, and I see commercial operations starting no sooner than mid-2023.

Bro, is there any chance of this extn opening in 2022(in Oct/Nov) ???
He literally mentioned mid-2023
refer this article, MD of Namma Metro says Dec 2022

In another post TMRG has mentioned mid 2023 which is understandable considering BMRCL’s lethargic work in meeting deadlines, state govt inability to push and central govt which doesn’t care for South Indian states like Guj Or Up. Neither state nor centre is ready to hold BMRCL accountable for delays.

At least the part from Visveshwaraya Industrial Estate till Bayappanahalli will open soon. Bcoz the work is going very fast. Kadugodi depot is almost complete. So Either by Dec 2022 or Jan 2023, the line will be open. Even Yellow line will be opened by December 2022 it seems. Only Depot work is remaining, which has chance of getting completed soon.
I wish lines are operational by Dec 2022 but CMRS inspection will take more than 3 months based upon their availability, also next year there’s Karnataka election and if modal code of conduct kicks in this would be delayed beyond deadline. So if 2022 is skipped consequences are very bad.
May be the line might be open for commercial in jan 2023 for republic dat
While work is progressing at a good pace, there is a short section near tin factory (next to the long steel girder over the flyover) where they have started the piling work just recently. This will delay the entire stretch. So i dont have hopes of the line opening anytime before q2 of 2023.
