MGCPL Launches Mumbai – Ahmedabad Bullet Train’s 1st OWG Bridge for Package P1C
M G Contractors Pvt. Ltd. (MGCPL) last week completed launching their first open web girder (OWG) truss bridge for Package P1(C) of the 508.17 km Mumbai – Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR Bullet Train) project.
Utilizing a mega traffic and power block, the 99.6 meter long steel bridge (GAD-31) was slowly pushed into position across the Indian Railways’ main-line track between Kanjari Boriyavi and Uttarsanda stations in Vadodara division of Gujarat (view on Google Maps).
The bridge weighs ~1486 MT and was placed into position at MAHSR’s chainage 446+67 using multiple rollers and hydraulic jacks at a skew of 62 degrees to the railway line which connects Delhi – Mumbai. The bridge was manufactured by Goodluck India group in Gujarat and has a height of 14.0 meters and width of 14.3 meters
India’s National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) had awarded M G Contractors with bridge package P-1(C)‘s Rs. 261.24 crore contract in August 2021. P1-C’s scope involves the construction of 1 prestressed concrete (PSC) and 4 steel truss bridges (GAD 28, 1967, 31 and 32) within 87.569 km Package C6 (Vadodara – Ahmedabad) which is under construction by Larsen & Toubro.
Trestle erection to support the bridge’s assembly and launch had started exactly a year ago in early April 2023.
An estimated 70,865 MT of steel will be used for the fabrication of the line’s 28 steel bridges. The very first OWG was placed into position in October 2023 by MG Contractors on Package P-1(B) at MAHSR’s chainage 254.585 over across NH-53 near Surat – see details and pics.
