Ashoka Wins Kolshet-Kalher & Gaimukh-Payegaon Bridges’ Contracts

Ashoka Buildcon Ltd. (ABL) on Friday was declared as the lowest bidder to construct 1.64 km Kolshet – Kalher Bridge and 6.509 km Gaimukh – Payegaon Bridge projects in Thane, just north of Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Both 6-lane bridges by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) include a 120 meter long navigation span over Vasai Creek which is also known as Thane Creek. The projects will link the upcoming Thane Coastal Road project with the upcoming Virar – Alibaug Multi-Modal Corridor project.

MMRDA had invited bids for their construction in June 2024. Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) was appointed by MMRDA as the Peer Review Consultant for both bridges’ Detailed Project Report (DPR) and assisted MMRDA with evaluating the bids.

Ashoka’s bids were negligibly higher (5.51% & 6.67% respectively) than MMRDA’s estimates, so contracts should be awarded in the coming months without a long financial bid evaluation period.

MMRDA plans to construct 3 new bridges over Vasai Creek to improve regional connectivity by providing alternate routes. Here’s a recap of all bridges from north to south (shown in blue):

  • 6.509 km Gaimukh – Payegaon Bridge project: Ashoka is lowest bidder (this post!)
  • 3.93 km Kasarvadavli – Kharbhav Bridge project: Afcons is lowest bidder
  • 1.64 km Kolshet – Kalhar Bridge project: Ashoka is lowest bidder (this post!)
