Afcons Wins Kasarvadavli – Kharbhav Creek Bridge’s Contract in Maharashtra

Afcons Infrastructure on Friday was declared as the lowest bidder to construct the 3.93 km Kasarvadavli – Kharbhav Creek Bridge project north-east of Mumbai, Maharashtra.

This 6-lane & 40m wide road by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) includes a roughly 1 km long bridge over Vasai Creek connecting Ghodbunder Road in Thane with Chinchoti Anjur Phata Road (Maharashtra State Highway SH-48).

Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) was appointed by MMRDA as the Peer Review Consultant for its Detailed Project Report (DPR).

MMRDA had invited bids for its construction in June 2024 with a Rs. 1453.37 crore estimate and 4 year deadline including 2 year defects liability period (DLP). Technical bids were opened on July 15 to reveal 4 bidders.

MMRDA’s Brief Scope: Design and Construction of Creek Bridge from Kasarvadavli to Kharbav

Kasarvadavli – Kharbhav Creek Bridge’s alignment – via MMRDA’s tender documents

Afcons’ bid of Rs. 1552.77 crore was 6.83% higher than MMRDA’s estimate, which is negligible when it comes to Mumbai projects, so a contract should be awarded in the coming months without a long financial bid evaluation period.

The project includes a cloverleaf interchange with the upcoming Thane Coastal Road (Navayuga is lowest bidder) with ramps to the Virar – Alibaug Multi-Modal Corridor‘s carriageways. Along the way, it will pass over the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor line, Indian Railways’ Virar – Bhiwandi line, and the Mumbai – Ahmedabad High Speed Rail line.

MMRDA plans to construct 3 new bridges over Vasai Creek. In the map below, its alignment is the second one from the top-left corner:

They are building bridges everywhere over the creeks, while ignoring the most important and obvious one – Vikhroli to Ghansoli (i.e. extension of JVLR to Navi Mumbai)

First of all they all are ignoring bridge which can connect vasai to bhayandar, if that bridge is made all the west traffic which first goes to east for national highways will not goto east they will directly goto vasai west then take a bridge from vasai to bhayandar and will reach Mumbai easily.

Very first no one is Bothered to talk about below TWO important Connectivitys.
    1) Vasai- Bhyander road Connectivity. Which is very important for daily travelling. Only excess is via Highway and Ghodbunder.
    2) Virar- Palghar Connectivity. A desperate Connectivity is required over Vaitarna River from Arnala (Virar) to Palghar. This will reduce travel time by least 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour. Only excess is via Highway.
This Connectivity is upmost important taking into consideration of the new Port coming up in dahanu
