Maruti Wins Sabarmati Bridge’s Contract in Dharoi, Gujarat

Maruti Infracreation Pvt. Ltd. on Thursday was declared as the lowest bidder for the construction of a new 3.3 km long bridge in Dharoi, Gujarat on HAM mode by India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

This 4 lane bridge will be built over the Sabarmati River on national highway NH-58 just south of Dharoi Dam. Its site is located roughly 100 km north of Ahmedabad (view on Google Maps).

The bridge’s construction work was approved by the Central Government’s cabinet in March 2024 with an estimated cost of Rs. 1097.59 crore. The bridge will replace a low level causeway which often gets submerged when it rains. This contract’s scope also includes construction of 2 vehicle underpasses and 3 small approach bridges.

MoRTH had invited bids for its civil construction in March 2024 with a Rs. 301.14 crore estimate and 2 year deadline. Technical bids were opened in early July to reveal 13 bidders and all firms qualified through in technical evaluation.

Maruti’s bid of Rs. 234.99 crore was 21.96% less than MoRTH’s estimate of Rs. 301.14 crore, so a contract should be awarded in the coming weeks without a long financial bid evaluation period.

I’ve admittedly never heard of Maruti but their website suggests they’ve completed and have a few ongoing rail overbridge (ROB) and road contracts throughout Gujarat.

Anyhow, with this development I expect basic groundwork to start in Q4 2024 and full-fledged construction work in Q1 2025.
