5 Bidders for Thane Metro’s Design Consultant Contract DDC-01

Five firms have submitted bids for the first Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract of the 29 km Thane Metro project after Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRCL or MahaMetro) opened technical bids on Thursday.

Thane Metro is officially known as Thane Integral Ring Metro Project and will consist of 22 stations (20 elevated & 2 underground). The project was approved for construction earlier this month by the Central Government’s Cabinet with a 2029 deadline and estimated total cost of Rs. 12,200 crore.

The scope of Thane Metro’s first DDC contract (Package DDC-01) includes providing design services for 6 elevated stations on the northern-end of the line located at Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar Natyagraha, Manpada, Dongripada, Vijay Nagari, Waghbil and Waterfront.

MahaMetro had invited bids for this contract in early August with a Rs. 3.82 crore estimate and 36 month deadline.

Note: The list below shows lead bidders only and some might have bid in a JV with other firms.

Bidders

  • Enia Design Pvt. Ltd. – Mahendra Raj Consultants JV
  • LKT Engineering Consultants Ltd.
  • RITES Ltd.
  • STUP Consultants Pvt. Ltd.
  • SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) Pvt. Ltd.

Maha-Metro’s Brief Scope: Detailed Design Consultancy Services for 6 (Six) Elevated Stations Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar Natyagraha, Manpada, Dongripada, Vijay Nagari, Waghbil and Waterfront, of Thane Integral Ring Metro Project.

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When completed, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely design consultant.

The DDC’s role will include, but is not limited to, producing and proposing alternate designs of all civil, architectural, building services, electrical and mechanical (E&M) works.

I expect a DDC to be appointed by year-end and the first civil tender notice for station works to be published in Q3 2025. Prior to that we might see a tender notice for the construction of its elevated viaduct connecting these stations as early as Q4 2024.
