4 Bidders for Indore-Ujjain, Mumbai & Delhi NCR’s New Metro Lines’ Geotechnical Investigation
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in January received 4 bids for geotechnical soil investigation works of Indore – Ujjain Metro in Madhya Pradesh, and for Mumbai Metro and Delhi Metro within the National Capital Region (NCR).
This bulk contract for 139 km of new metro lines across India includes surveying work for the following 6 corridors which will aid in the preparation of Detailed Projects Report (DPRs):
- Mumbai Metro MRTS Lines (30 km)
- Indore – Ujjain Metro (46 km)
- Tughlakabad – Noida Sector 142 metro line (15 km)
- Kundli – Sonipat metro line (20 km)
- Samaypur Badli – Kundli metro line (15 km)
- New Delhi Railway Station – New Ashok Nagar metro line (13 km)
DMRC had invited bids for this contract in December 2024 with a 12 month deadline. Technical bids were opened on January 1, 2025 to reveal 4 bidders.
Bidders
- CEG Test House And Research Centre Pvt. Ltd.
- Cengrs Geotechnica Pvt Ltd.
- Independent Consultants & Technocrates (ICT)
- Techpro Engineers Pvt Ltd.
DMRC’s Brief Scope: Geo-Technical Investigation Works for Preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for MRTS Projects

The bids have since early January been undergoing evaluation which is expected to be wrapped up anytime now. When completed, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.
While Delhi NCR’s new metro lines are identified in a fairly straight-forward manner, Mumbai’s new lines aren’t but I suspect it includes Line-8 (Gold Line) which is being planned to connect Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport with Navi Mumbai International Airport.
In Madhya Pradesh, a new metro line is planned to connect Lavkush Chauraha (Indore) to Mahakaleshwar Temple (Ujjain). This seems unnecessary to me given the current level of urban development and economic activity in that region. A semi high-speed rail line also would be a stretch at this time.
Anyhow, here are the geotechnical activities that need to be performed as prescribed in the tender documents:
- Drilling of 150 mm diameter boreholes in all types of soils upto 30 m depth.
- Conducting Standard Penetration Tests in bore holes at regular intervals of 1.5m as per I.S. Code of practice and also in-situ tests as per Schedule.
- Collecting undistrubed soil samples from bore holes at every change of strata subject to a minimum of two per bore hole as per I.S. Code of practice.
- Recording of water table level in the bore holes after completion of boring.
- Drilling bore holes upto a maximum depth of 5 metres in intact Hard Rock (RQD >50%) or 10 m in weathered rock (RQD upto 50%) or 30 metres in soil (upto N=100) using hydraulic / calyx rig by wash boring method as per the directions of Engineer-in-charge and as detailed in Technical Specifications and Schedule.
- Conducting in-situ permeability tests in Rocky strata and tests in labs in all other types of soils.
- Collecting rock core samples from bore holes and record the RQD.
- Conduct all necessary laboratory tests on samples collected as per Schedule and Technical Specifications.
- Survey of bore holes for elevation and plotting of bore hole locations in alignment plan.

Wow, 3 cities in a single tender. Very interesting.
For indore – ujjain, I agree, there isn’t enough development on that corridor, plus had they been in a position to complete it before 2028 Kimbo in ujjain, This MIGHT have made more sense, but there is no way that is happening.
I think this is more politics than anything else, and infact this won’t go anywhere for the next 5-10 years.
Also, are the lines in ncr an indication of phase 5 planning or something else, like line from samaypur badli to kundli to Sonipat?
Haryana Metro Rail Corporation have appointed DMRC for DPR preparation for Badli Kundali and Kundali Sonipat lines.
It’s a Separate project by HMRTC just like Old Gurgaon Metro.
DMRC phase 5 have no role in it.

Yeah looking at the 12 month deadline as opposed to the standard 3 month deadline for geo work, there’s no rush to get these lines going.
What’s Kimbo?
Sorry, I ment kumbh. autocorrect does funny things you know
Next kumbh is in ujjain in April 2028, and indore being the closest major city, many people do travel to ujjain via indore.
And the rush is quite high, in 2016 I remember, we got 15 extra days of summer vacation because they needed our school busses to ferry devotees from Indore isbt and railway station to Mahakaleshwar and back.
Instead of building new metro line between New Delhi and New Ashok Nagar, it is really Needed that the greenline is extended to Sarai Kala/ Nizamuddin that connects New Delhi directly. As all RRTS will originate from there.
I like that idea. Another option for Green Line is to connect it to Lajpat Nagar or connect it to Khan Market and onward to Chanakyapuri, RK Puram and Vasant Kunj (Golden Line)
What would even be the route of this New Delhi New Ashok Nagar link?
Green line is not being extended from indraprastha further because there is already rrts station planned at indraprastha for delhi panipat rrts line
Sir, its Tughlkabad – Noida sector 142 (Not sector 12)..please correct…. reference: https://x.com/NoidaUpdatesX/status/1873261986571600076
Thanks, missed the 4. Corrected it.
They should extend airport line from new delhi railway station to New Ashok Nagar station. That would help providing connectivity to airport
