L&T Launches Agra Metro Line-2’s 1st U-Girder at Agra Cantt

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) last Sunday night launched their first set of 2 U-girders for the construction of Agra Metro Phase 1 project’s 15.09 km Line-2 which will connect Agra Cantonment – Kalindi Vihar via 14 elevated stations.

This major milestone for Line-2’s construction, under Package AGCC-07, was recorded at piers P/18-P19 in Agra Cantonment using 27.90m long girders each weighing 155MT.

This event took place a little over four months from when L&T began pouring concrete to cast U-girders at their yard in Dauki village along Fatehabad Road. That development was a record in itself in India as they took just 2 months & 20 days to start casting activities.

Per L&T’s construction plan, they will cast 761 piers to build the line’s super-structure and launch 930 U-girders to form its viaduct.

Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) had awarded L&T with Package AGCC-07’s Rs. 1242.79 crore civil contract in November 2024 with a tight 24 month deadline.

Package AGCC-07’s scope includes the construction of the entire line’s viaduct, 14 elevated stations, 530m viaduct to Line-2’s Kalindi Vihar Depot, and interestingly a 2.61 km viaduct from north of Sadar Bazar metro station to Line-1’s PAC Depot built by Lisha Engineers as part of Package AGCC-03.

At Agra College Station users will be able to interchange and switch over to the city’s 14.25 km Line-1 (Sikandra – Taj East Gate) where an underground station is under construction by Afcons – SAM India JV as part of Package AGCC-02.

Long way to go but I’m excited to see how line shapes out and if L&T ends up breaking any other records (100th launch, 200th launch etc.).
