Vadhavan Airport: Grant Thornton – Nippon Koei Awarded Prefeasibility Contract
Grant Thornton – Nippon Koei India JV this Monday was awarded a Rs. 30 lakh contract to prepare a prefeasibility study report for a new greenfield airport near Vadhavan Port, Maharashtra by Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd. (MADC).
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is developing Vadhavan Port roughly 140 km north of Mumbai as a deep draft port in Palghar District. The port will have 9 container terminals, each 1000 meters long, 4 multipurpose berths, including the coastal berth, 4 liquid cargo berths, a Ro-Ro berth, and a Coast Guard berth.
A new greenfield airport is planned to be constructed in the port’s vicinity potentially at an offshore location in the Arabian Sea. As a first step, MADC invited bids to prepare its prefeasibility report in February 2025 with a 100 day deadline.
MADC received 7 bids when technical bids were opened in May out of which only 3 bidders qualified to the financial bid opening stage.

Vadhavan Port will be connected to the Delhi – Mumbai Expressway via a link expressway (shown in black below) and form a major part of the proposed India – Middle East – Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
