Pune Metro Phase 2 – Information & Update

Pune Metro’s Phase 2 project in Pune, Maharashtra is currently on the drawing board. Phase 2’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) hasn’t been finalized yet.

The project’s draft DPR with routes totaling 82.50 km were submitted by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in September 2022. PMC’s board approved the project in August 2023 and sent its proposal to Maharashtra’s state government for approval, which is currently pending.

The project includes the extension of Pune Metro’s Aqua Line (built in Phase 1) in either direction and new 2 lines.

An official deadline has not yet been set. At this time, construction on Phase 2 is expected to start no sooner than 2026. I expect Phase 2 to be completed and opened no sooner than 2031.

The following routes have been finalized by MahaMetro. I expect major modifications (consolidations, deletions) to be made by the time construction begins.
