Pune Metro Phase 1 Extension – Information & Update

Pune Metro’s Phase 1 Extension project in Pune, Maharashtra involves the extension of Pune Metro’s 16.589 km Purple Line, built in Phase 1, from PCMC to Nigdi (Bhakti Shakti) and from Swargate to Katraj.

The project is also referred to as Pune Metro Phase 1A. Its Detailed Project Report (DPR) has not been published online by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro).

The project’s 4.52 km northern extension from PCMC to Nigdi with 3 elevated stations was approved was approved by the Central Government’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in October 2023 with an estimated cost of Rs. 910.18 crore.

Its 5.46 km underground southern extension from Swargate to Katraj with 3 underground stations is currently pending approval from the Central Government.

Construction on Phase 1 Extension is expected to start in mid-2024. I expect Phase 1 Extension to be completed and opened no sooner than 2029.
