RVNL Wins Pune Metro Nigdi Extension’s Construction Contract C-01

March 15, 2024 Update: MahaMetro has issued contract LOA to RVNL with a value of Rs. 339,23,39,132.00

March 11, 2024 Original Post: Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) was today declared as the lowest bidder to construct a 4.519 km new viaduct for extending Pune Metro’s 16.589 km Purple Line from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Nigdi (Bhakti Shakti).

This construction contract (Package P1A-C-01) under Pune Metro Phase 1 Extension project was approved by the Central Government’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in October 2023 with an estimated cost of Rs. 910.18 crore.

The construction of 3 elevated stations en route at Chinchwad, Akurdi and Nigdi will be carried out via a separate package for which a tender notice is currently pending.

MahaMetro had invited bids for the viaduct’s work in December 2023 with an unknown estimate and 130 weeks (2.5 year) deadline. Technical bid evaluation was completed last week to reveal 5 firms had qualified – Tata Projects (TPL), RVNL, Ranjit Buildcon – Eagle Infra JV, J Kumar Infraprojects (JKIL) and URC Construction (URCC).

I don’t have bid values for this package. If someone reading this is aware then leave a comment below or shoot me a message using the Contact page. I’d like to add it in for documentation.

RVNL’s Bid: Rs. 339 crore

MahaMetro’s Brief Scope: Design and Construction of Elevated Viaduct of Length 4.519 Kms from CH: (-)1079.899m to CH: (-)5599.298m between PCMC and NIGDI (Bhakti Shakti) on the North-South Corridor of Pune Metro Rail Project- Reach1 – Extension.

MahaMetro’s estimate is unknown to me, so I can’t provide an assessment on how RVNL’s bid is placed. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out. If awarded, RVNL will subcontract work out to a civil construction company as seen in other metro projects.

Back in December 2023, LKT Engineering was awarded a Rs. 1.11 crore contract to provide Detailed Design Consultancy (DDC) services for this extension’s 3 stations. It’s been nearly 3 months since they’ve been onboard, so I reckon we’re another 1-3 months away from seeing a tender notice being published for the stations’ construction contract.
