Delhi Metro’s Guru Dronacharya Station Renamed to Indigo Guru Dronacharya

Remember how the Delhi Metro’s Noida City Centre station on its Blue line was recently renamed to Wave City Center Noida? Now the Guru Dronacharya station on the Yellow line in Gurgaon has been renamed to Indigo Guru Dronacharya! This name change is part of a 9 station rebranding exercise by the Delhi Metro Rail Corp to generate some extra revenue apart from the traditional fare mechanism.

The name change reflects Indigo Airlines’ name who in April had won the bid for renaming this station. Their headquarters are located adjacent to the station at the Global Business Park (see below), so the name change is quite apt and helps reinforce their brand to commuters.

With this station rebranded, the remaining 7 stations awaiting rebranding are all located outside of Delhi and include Vaishali, Golf Course, Botancial Garden, Noida Sector 18, MG Road, HUDA City Centre and IFFCO Chowk.

By the way, in December 2014, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation had announced that they will similarly auction the station naming rights along the 29.07 km Noida – Greater Noida metro line prior to it opening in late 2017. For regular updates on that line, please see this page.
