At 6 am in the morning today, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) began end to end trials on the entire 18.1 km Purple line which stretches from Baiyappanahalli to Mysore Road!

The Purple line includes 3 distinct sections of which the 6.7 km Reach 1 (Baiyappanahalli to MG Road) and 6.4 km Reach 2 (Magadi Road to Mysore Road) are operational. Trial runs on the 4.8 km underground section between Cubbon Park and Magadi Road finally began earlier this month, and due to that the opening of Reach 2 for commercial operations had to be delayed by a couple of days.

As per a report from last week, these full length trials will be conducted from November 23 (today) to 28 between 6-8 am and 8-10 pm due to which the metro will only operate between 8 am and 8 pm. During these trial runs, the trains will operate at different speeds between 40 kmph and 90 kmph during which the BMRCL and Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO) officials will monitor the behavior of the trains (sway, motion) to ensure that no damage is done to the tracks, wheels or to the trains’ body when they pull into a station and align with the platforms. At the end of the week once these set of trials are wrapped up, RDSO officials are expected to compile a report and forward it along to the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety for this section’s formal inspection.

When will the purple line realistically start fully? By end of December 2015 or by January 31 2016?. I am eagerly waiting for the commencement. Can’t wait anymore. Please confirm. Thanks. Manikantan from Chennai, Ex-Bangalorean

Hi, I expect the line to start functioning in March. Besides testing and ironing out operational issues, a lot of station work is pending. I expect the CMRS to inspect the line in January.

I am not sure when NAMMA METRO TRAIN will be fully operational. I am hearing from last two years but no hopes again. Only GOD can save us.
As a common man i am still having doubt why GOVT was not decided metro train route for IT companies area in first PHASE , Specially to ITPL , Outer RING road and Electronic city. TO these areas commuters are more and GOVT will get good revenue.

I don’t see any technical reason behind these routes not to select. Now a days technology is developed in such way that, other countries are building/built bridges on the sea with couple of years and opened it for commuters.

If our GOVT finishes all planned Metro train work before next 2-4 years then it will be useful to people and environment otherwise it will be nightmare for us.
Bengaluru traffic and environment both are getting spoiled very much. More over Bengaluru/Karnataka started loosing IT companies due to traffic problem and lack of infrastrcuture.
