DMRC to Open Financial Bids for 2 Sections of Vijayawada’s Metro Today

Today afternoon at 3:35 pm, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation & Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation are expected to open & evaluate the financial bids for 2 sections of the 13.27 km elevated line-2 of Vijayawada’s Metro project! In September, the DMRC had published a notice inviting tenders for this line which’ll run from Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) to Nidamanuru. This notice came just a few weeks after they were appointed as the consultant for the project (See: Appointment Letter).

In October, some infrastructure/civil construction companies had raised queries and requested more time to submit bids. As such, the DMRC and AMRC decided to extend the submission deadline from December 7 to December 14. The pre-bid meetings have been attended by companies like Tata Projects, L&T ECC, Soma Enterprise, AFCONS Infrastructure and NCC who’re all expected to submit bids.  The total cost of this line is estimated to be Rs. 3,148 crore and the depot for it will be located on a 25 hectare land parcel in Nidamanuru.

From the date of awarding the contract, civil construction on both sections is supposed to be completed in 24 months. Please note that bids for the section from Railway Station East to the Pandit Nehru Bus Station are yet to be invited and will most likely be a part of Contract AMCC-03. Similarly, bids for the 12.76 km elevated line-1 from PNBS to Penamaluru (shown in blue above) will be invited at a later stage.

In other news, the AMRC’s preliminary project report expects the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to fund 60% of the project by providing a Rs. 3,600 crore loan. The rest of the project will be financed by the central & state governments. The DMRC has meanwhile shortlisted D Radhakrishna Reddy who’s currently a General Manager at RITES for the role of the Project Director.
