NCC to Construct Bangalore Metro’s Extn to Anjanapura
It’s official now. After emerging as the lowest bidder and kick-starting the hiring process in November last year, NCC Limited has emerged as the lowest bidder for constructing the elevated 6.29 km southern extension of Bangalore Metro’s Green line from Puttenahalli to Anjanapura as part of the Phase 2 project. This extension includes 5 new stations at Anjanapura Cross Road, Krishna Leela Park, Vajrahalli, Thalghattapura and Anjanapura Township (NICE Junction) as shown below:
This news was revealed by BMRCL’s MD Pradeep Singh Khorala in an interview to the New Indian Express:
The contract for the Puttenahalli-Anjanapura stretch has been awarded to Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited. They will begin the work in a day or two. All the required land has been acquired and the compensation process is under way.
With this section awarded, now 2 sections of Phase 2 have been awarded out:
1) Purple line – 3.9 km section between Mysore Road and RV College to IL&FS Engineering.
Note: A further 2.57 km extension from RV College to Kengri is yet to be awarded.
2) Green line – 6.29 km section between Puttenahalli and Anjanapura Township to NCC Ltd.
This represents roughly 14% of all construction that will be carried out in Phase 2. To see all the extensions and new lines planned in the 72.1 km Phase 2 project, please see: Bangalore Metro Phase 2 Information and Map.
Besides pushing contractors and their subcontractors to get Phase 1’s underground work completed, the BMRCL these days has been busy with issuing tenders for demolition works and road widening (eg. KR Puram-Whitefield road, RV Road-Silk Board-Bommasandra and Hessaraghatta-BIEC). The tendering process for many key sections of Phase 2 such as the 15.50 km Whitefield extension or the mostly underground 21.25 km Gottigere – Nagavara line is expected to only begin in or after Q3 2016.

Can we expect the east west corridor to open now – Mysore Road to Baiyappanahalli through Cubbon Park – say, by 01 March 2016?
That date will not be possible as the BMRCL is yet to invite the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) to conduct a safety inspection/audit. Once the application is submitted, it can take 1-3 months to finalize dates, conduct the inspection and give an approval.
What I understand from all metro projects in india is that, no deadline is respected; Yet deadlines are always given. Why? I don’t know. Just to save the skin for the moment or escape public anger and frustration, by giving them false consolations.
What would be the realistic date for the Mysore road to M.G road line to be opened for the public?
The line is not going to open before April. There are 2 variables at play: (1) CMRS inspection and (2) availability of Ministers. Both have an influence on the opening date. #1 is yet to commence.
Why is there a underground line in phase 2 considering Phase 1 went underground because of Majestic and Cubbon park, but why phase 2?
Space and design reasons.
Is it fair to assume kanakapura road with its single linear stretch of balance of 6.29km of overhead line and a single contractor at play will be the first to be completed and thrown open as part of metro phase 2 ? Would late 2018/ early 2019 be too optimistic or real possibility ?
Hi, 2019 is a fair estimation. This section along with the Mysore Road – Kengeri section will be the first to open up.
Thanks. Also, the sanctioned plans are only up to the NICE junction. However, there is a strong buzz on the ground that this this line going up to art of living ashram. Whats are your views ?
Maybe in the 4th phase? 3rd phase is under planning right plan, but I haven’t seen any indication of it being extended up to the ashram.
Haai my name is Srutheesh I am looking for a safety job . I am also a fresher in this field . I have NEBOSH,IOSH,CIEH,FIRST-AID certificate.please contact me 9645071403
Why the small stretch from RVCE to Kengeri has not been included in the scope of ILFS contract ?
That’s been awarded to Soma Enterprise and will in fact be a little longer than 2.57 km as it’ll go over the NICE road and connect to the upcoming Challegata Depot – see this post
Metro 2nd phase in kanakapura road will be extended to art of living?
No such plans exist for that right now.
Please confirm an approximate date when Anjanapura metro station will be live
Sometime in 2019-2020
Please confirm the current status of the metro construction at Anjanapura. Also please confirm the land aquisition status for the entire phase.

As per above link .
I see the BMRCL construction work is extended beyond nice road junction, does this mean that t will be further extended till Art of living or the extension is related to work shop ?
Related to the workshop (depot)
Is the Metro will extend till Art of Living or Harohalli or only till Anjapura township in the Kankpura road?
When the anjapura metro station is expected to function?
