[Pics] Hyderabad Metro Conducts Trial Runs at Night
Night owls in Hyderabad have noticed the concessionaire of Hyderabad Metro, L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd, and its operations team from Keolis conducting trial runs deep in the night at 2 am! The reason for doing so isn’t quite clear, especially since no part of the 72 km metro project is currently operational (due to various reasons) and wouldn’t be affected by the trials.
Here are some shots from Kukkatpally & Miyapur which both lie on the 12 km Miyapur – SR Nagar section of the 29.87 km line between Miyapur to LB Nagar where only station finishing works are pending. Trial runs on the 4.4 km Miyapur to Kukatpally stretch had started exactly a year ago on May 8 2015 after which L&T extended it to the SR Nagar station in October.
For this stretch, L&T is yet to file their paperwork to invite the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for conducting a safety inspection.
Back in March, the CMRS completed inspecting the 8 km Nagole – Mettuguda stretch of the 28 km Nagole – Raidurg line, but oddly, L&T last week announced that the stretch is still pending clearance and will take another 2-3 months to receive it. Various sources point to the fact that the 8 km stretch by itself will not be a crowd puller and not operationally profitable, which makes perfect business sense, but fails miserably in social responsibility which each metro organization is entrusted with.
