Geotechnical & Topographic Surveying Begins for Pune Metro

A couple days after the 31.254 km Pune Metro’s foundation stone was unveiled, an unknown contractor appointed by the Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation yesterday began geotechnical and topographic surveying work along the project’s alignment at Ramvadi on Nagar Road and at Sant Tukaram Nagar in Pimpri Chinchwad.

Over the next month or two, the contractor will drill boreholes via old school tripods at multiple places in order to examine the soil and present a report on both alignments’ soil profile. This information will then be made available to potential bidders for submitting informed/accurate bids when Maha-Metro invites bids for the project’s civil construction.

In the coming days, more such sites are are going to crop up along the route so if you’re in Pune, don’t confuse it with actual construction activity. In other news, the NMRCL has finalized an architect for setting up Maha-Metro’s local office in Pune and the team has started surveying land for future civil contractors to set up their casting yards.
