TBM S53 Lowered into Lucknow Metro’s Bapu Bhawan Shaft

After TBM S52, workers from the Tata – Gülermak JV earlier this week also started lowering parts of TBM S53 into the 22m deep Bapu Bhawan Shaft adjacent to the Sachivalaya (State Secretariat) Station’s site.

This Ø6.52m Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) TBM’s parts are currently being assembled and is expected to be commissioned in early February 2017. It will follow TBM S52, its sister Terratec machine which’ll be commissioned within the next 5 days, on a 780 meter journey towards Hazratganj Station (see tunneling plan) and build the 22.878 km north-south line’s up-line tunnel.

In the coming weeks, more parts (eg. segment erector, back-up gantry system) will be lowered into the shaft. As and when that happens, I’ll add more images here, so do check back!

Maybe I am asking for too much..but it would be awesome if S52 is stopped short of hazratganj and both TBMs then do a double breakthrough.

That’ll be quite a thing to watch! Let’s see how they advance. Depending on the geology and TPL-Gulermak’s performance, S53 could catch up with S52 or fall behind considerably.

When will the TBM S52 start the tunneling drive, it was supposed to start the same process from 15th but it’s already 18th of January?

Supposed to start any time now. I hear it’s been delayed as some politicians want to be a part of it? Not sure if that’s true or how that’ll work since the model code of conduct came into effect on Jan 4.

Hello, will LMRC construct a bridge over Gomti river or tunnel?

L&T will build a bridge over it. The tunnels end right between Hazratganj and KD Singh Babu Stadium as indicated by the purple ‘Ramp’ in the map above.
