ITD Cem India Awarded Viaduct Contract for Nagpur Metro’s EW Line
Late last month, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (erst. Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.) awarded ITD Cementation India Ltd. with a contract to build the elevated viaduct of Nagpur Metro’s 8.15 km Reach 4 between Sitabuldi & Prajapati Nagar in east Nagpur. This section is part of the 18.557 km east-west line and overall the 3rd of 4 sections in the city where construction will start, with work well underway at Reach 1 (Sitabuldi-Khapri) and Reach 3 (Sitabuldi-Lokmanya Nagar).
MahaMetro had invited bids for this section in November 2016 and estimated its construction to cost Rs. 180 crores. Last year, NCC from Reach 1 was temporarily roped in to construct 8 piers of this section near the Ram Jhula bridge’s Phase 2 project where the metro line turns from the Railway Station towards Dosar Vaisya Square. Recent images of those 8 piers can be viewed here and here.
A major part of the line will be built on the congested Central Avenue where 8 new stations are planned to come at the Nagpur Railway Station, Dosar Vaisya Square, Agrasen Square, Chittaroli Square, Telephone Exchange, Ambedkar Square, Vaishnao Devi Square & Prajapati Nagar. Their construction is part of a separate contract for which MahaMetro invited bids in January 2017.
This is ITD’s 2nd contract in Nagpur after they won a contract in October 2016 to construct 10 stations between Lokmanya Nagar – Jhansi Rani Square on Reach 3 of the same 18.557 km east-west line in western Nagpur. Overall this is the 6th major civil contract to be awarded by the NMRCL – see entire list. As per their website, the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) was given to ITD on March 24.
Here’s a recap of Nagpur Metro’s status:
