DMRC Invites Bids for Mumbai Metro Line-6’s Eastern Section
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has kick-started the bidding process for the construction of Mumbai Metro’s new 14.47 km Line-6 between Swami Samarth Nagar (Lokhandwala Complex) – Jogeshwari – Kanjurmarg – Vikhroli. The first notice inviting tenders is for package BC-01 which includes the IIT Powai – Vikhroli section’s 4.771 km elevated viaduct and 3 stations at IIT-Powai, Kanjurmarg and Vikhroli (EEH).
This development comes just a month after the Maharashtra government’s cabinet approved its construction estimated to cost Rs. 6672 crore. Like the 18.6 km Line-2A (Dahisar East – DN Nagar), the DMRC will be executing this line on behalf of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

Here’s the alignment of the line’s eastern section. This line’s Kanjurmarg Station will be connected to Line-4’s Gandhi Nagar Station (likely to be renamed later) for which bids were recently re-invited from construction firms.
DMRC has estimated this section’s construction to cost Rs 339.27 crores, and would like work to be completed within 30 months of the Letter of Award (LoA). The last date for submitting tender documents for bidding is January 8 2018 (3 pm) after which the bids are planned to be opened & evaluated for eligibility on January 9 at 3 pm. I expect financial bids to be opened in Q2 2018 and if no issues arise, then pre-construction site activity should begin in Q3 2018 with full-fledged construction work starting after the monsoons subside.

While its good to see Mumbai metro picked up pace in the last 1-2 years, the bidding to construction start phase seems to be too lengthy (more than 1 year).
On the other hand, in 2017 Metro systems started in 3 cities (Kochi, Lucknow, Hyderabad).
The Kanjurmarg station is not connected to the Kanjurmag Railway station on the Central Line? Currently it looks like it will be near the flyover on LBS marg?
I think it should be connected to Kanjurmarg by a skywalk.
Here’s its planned location on google maps –
As Yash highlighted, it’ll most likely be connected to CR’s station via a FOB.
I think the alignment at kanjurmarg is not at JVLR but towards the North nearer to kanjur station i.e between gandhinagar junction and Huma cinema, through the naval land on both sides of LBS,behind the Kendriya vidyalaya.Though i wonder if it faces obstruction on the east side near the FOB Skywalk.this make is very near to kanjur station.good thinking by MMRDA.
What’s difference between tender documents and financial bids.
Hi, tender documents are sold by the operator and include relevant information for firms to submit bids. In this case, the tender documents have –
Notice Inviting Tender
Instructions to Tenderers (including Annexures)
Form of Tender (including Appendices)
General Conditions of Contracts
Special Conditions of Contract (including Schedules)
Condition of Contract on Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) for Mumbai Metro Rail Project
Employer‟s Requirements – General
Employer‟s Requirements – Functional
Employer‟s Requirements – Design
Employer‟s Requirements – Construction
Employer‟s Requirements – Appendices
Design Basis Report
Bill of Quantities
Reference Document – Geotechnical Report
When firms submit bids, their application generally consists of 3 documents or “envelopes” –
1) Experience for eligibility
2) Technical Bid
3) Financial Bid
If a firm is disqualified in step 1, then their technical bid is not opened. Similarly, if they’re disqualified in the technical bidding round, then their financial bid is not opened.
Financial bids are basically the price/values submitted by different firms. It’s similar to IPL auctioning for players, but in this case, the lowest bidder wins the project.
This line needs to be extended towards Navi Mumbai–Ghansoli or Mahape. The main aim of the Metro and also what Mumbai really needs is the horizontal (East-West) connectivity. I hope the extend it.
Best thing would be extending this line from Vikhroli – Ghansoli (Underground, connected to railway station) – Mahape- Shil Road – Kalyan. Very good connectivity.
Mumbai Metro is good but what’s holding DMRC from starting Delhi Metro Magenta Line???
Scheduling issues. Apparently they’re unable to find a convenient time for all relevant local/national ministers to attend.
Dmrc next phase bidding in Feb or march 18
The location of the metro station at IIT is different in the two maps put up by you-one called eastern section and second called mahakali-powai section.can you put a proper map with location for each station on this section.
The one shown above is more accurate. See this – https://imgur.com/a/v4sxA
I’ll publish a google map soon.
would love a similar location for all the stations on this line!
So, DMRC is the agency to execute line-6…it was reported in the past that MMRC would execute it.
When was the previous decision changed? Is it good for the project or bad?
Not sure when the change happened. MMRC probably had too much on their plate with Line-3? Ideally, I would have preferred if MMRC was the owner of all lines and DMRC guided them. Having MMRDA in the mix is not ideal, but since there’s $$$ involved, they want a piece of action. Same story in Pune where Line-3’s development is owned by PMRDA.
Also the alignment at Kanjur station is going to be very difficult, its not on JVLR.The position shown on east side has buildings next to each other with a skywalk which will have to be dismantled and still the line would be few feet from the buildings.i.e if the shown alignment is final.
Please extend this line till ghansoli to shil road, we have to face huse crowded route to vikroli from thane and, its very time consuming also.
