(Pics) Delhi Metro’s Naraina Vihar Station Gets Ready for Launch

With the launch of Delhi Metro’s Pink Line just weeks away (CMRS’ 3-day final inspection is ongoing), here’s a look inside the Naraina Vihar metro station which will be a part of the 58.59 km line’s 20.60 km first section (Majlis Park – South Campus) to open for commercial operations.

This 221.33m long underground station was designed by AECOM and built using the top-down method by J Kumar Infraprojects as part of package CC-20 of the 162 km Phase 3 project. The final TBM breakthrough for this small underground section (Delhi Cantt Ramp Shaft – Naraina Vihar Station – Mayapuri Ramp Shaft) was achieved in February 2016 by TBM S26.

Why is the station length 221m? Isn’t it longer than usual?
How many coaches can the platform accommodate?

Underground station boxes are typically 200-250m long. All stations on Line-7/8 have been built to accommodate max 6 coaches. 1 coach is typically 22m long.

There are lots of Equipment for TVS EVS/ventilational kept in back of the house area at platform and concourse level due which length required is that much , platform length usable for passengers is according to no of coaches only.

Max 6 coaches? No provision for 8 coaches considering future increased ridership?

Also, when yellow/blue lines were built 15 years back, did they made a provision of 8 coaches at that time itself?

Yup, max 6 coaches. Their game plan for Line-7/Line-8 involves using CBTC signalling for high train frequency.

I’d recommend waiting for the DMRC’s announcement. Testing will be over when it’s over. Delivering an untested system is in no one’s interest.

Hope CMRS inspection of pink line found no major anomalies during 26-28 Feb. Any idea about its report and suggestions to DMRC which are to be complied ?? Opening any line through video conference is the best option to avoid delay and public exchequer. Any comments please
