Delhi Metro Pink Line’s 1st Stretch to Open on March 14

After receiving the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety’s approval yesterday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) just announced that it will finally inaugurate commercial services on the 21.565 km Majlis Park – Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus section of the new 58.59 km Pink Line (Line-7) on March 14, 2018.

A detailed inauguration schedule is yet to be released, but the event will be held at the DMRC’s Metro Bhawan Headquarters on Barakhamba Road at 4 pm. Commercial/revenue operations for passengers are planned to begin on the same day at 6 pm. All interchange links walkways will go live except for the South Campus – Dhaula Kuan (Pink – Orange) foot overbridge which needs a couple more months to get ready. More details on the DMRC’s operational plan will be added here when known.

Trial runs (testing) on this new line commenced on a small 6.5 km portion of the line between Shakurpur and Mayapuri in June 2017, and were then extended further south to South Campus (Dhaula Kuan) in August.  The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation completed testing in early February 2018 following which a thorough 3-day final inspection was conducted by the CMRS between February 26-28.

This 20.6 km section of the line includes 12 stations (8 elevated and 4 underground) at Majlis Park, Azadpur (interchange with Yellow Line), Shalimar Bagh, Netaji Subhash Place (interchange with Red Line), Shakurpur, Punjabi Bagh West, ESI Hospital, Rajouri Garden (interchange with Blue Line), Mayapuri, Naraina Vihar, Delhi Cantonment and South Campus –

The pink line is divided into three section. South campus has train reversal system. so train wont go beyond south campus. Motibagh section continues till mayur vihar. at mayur vihar train will reverse back. Hence, it will start after trial run complete from motibagh to mayur vihar. Expect opening by last quater if and only if trial run don’t take more than six months.

You are wrong here. We have a reversal system at lajpat nagar too. So within 3 months line will be opened between South campus and lajpat nagar.

Folks – this weekend the site is going to be migrated to a new hosting plan for speeding up site load speed. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time due to a surge in visitors during peak time which often results in 500 errors, downtime and sluggish site speed.

Hang on. Hopefully this migration will be smooth!

Good that the inauguration date didn’t drag on for too long. And Hope the Delhi & Central govt politicians don’t fight over inauguration protocols.
