CMRS to Inspect Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line between May 8 – 10
The final round of safety inspections on the pending 25.59 km Janakpuri West – Kalkaji Mandir section of Delhi Metro’s new 38.235 km Magenta Line (Line-8) are scheduled to be held over 3 days between May 8 -10 by Shailesh Kumar Pathak – the appointed Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) from the Indian Railways’ Northern Circle.
These dates were conveyed in a letter sent on Friday afternoon (April 27) by the Commission of Railway Safety, under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, to the Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation –
The inspection’s agenda will be added here when known.
DMRC submitted relevant documents to the CMRS’ office in early April to which the CMRS’ office responded by sending the following letter on April 11 requesting for more information –
The DMRC then responded back to this letter on April 13.
This will be the 8th time an inspection is held for commissioning any section of the 162.5 km Phase 3 project and the 2nd time an inspection is held on the Magenta Line after the 12.64 km Botanical Garden – Kalkaji Mandir section’s 3-day inspection in November 2017.
In the upcoming inspection, the CMRS and his team will visually inspect the line’s tunnels, small elevated viaducts (at Shankar Vihar and Sadar Bazaar), tracks and all facets of the stations such as its PA system, signage, safety features, drinking water facilities, station access and control room.
This 25.59 km section of the line includes 16 stations (2 elevated and 14 underground) at Janakpuri West (new station box for interchange with Blue Line), Dabri Mor, Dashratpuri, Palam, Sadar Bazar Cantonment (elevated), IGI Terminal-1, Shankar Vihar (elevated), Vasant Vihar, Munirka, RK Puram, IIT-Delhi, Hauz Khas (new station box for interchange with Yellow Line), Panchsheel Park, Chirag Delhi, Greater Kailash, GK and Nehru Enclave. Due to a lack of space, I’ve marked only some of the stations below. A full map can be viewed here.
Once inspected and approved by the CMRS, the Magenta Line’s inauguration really depends on the availability of local & national ministers, as well as on the completion of any finishing works at the stations. After its inauguration, about 87.34 km of Phase 3’s 162.5 km routes will be operational and the entire network will become about 278 km long with 199 stations.
Before you leave, check out some stunning images from inside the IGI-Terminal 1 Station here. In the run-up to the line’s inauguration I’ll try posting images from other stations.

We’ve missed ya !
Also, so weird, why are CRS letters such a mishmash of Hindi & English that nobody can read them unless they are super fluent in BOTH the languages.
One would think that either they’ll either write the whole letter in one language, or both of them … right now, it’s in neither.
Finally a post and tweet from you after so many days! Where were you?
Nice to hear about magenta line opening. Helpful during my delhi visit.
Long time no see… Themetrorailguy.com!
The hauz khas station is still not complete. I don’t know how they will be able to complete before inspection.
I think station shall be opened from one side. Since only one side work is pending.
No its completed. But there is some work still left in the parking area and at gate number 1. of Greater Kailash Metro station. Rest it’s all OK to go..
Woohoo….Thought , you may have resigned from DMRC… But good to know that I was wrong. Expecting a flurry of updates…
Thanks TMRG finally you posted good news after long wait. Thanks a lot. Please also post inside photos whenever is available with you.
Uff. Finally! This line is going to be a game changer- mark my words!
TMRG- Is there a provision to add stations on existing lines? For instance- there is space and need for a station on Magenta between Botanical Garden and Okhla Bird Sanctuary?
No, they will not add any more stations. Not the same mistake which they had done in blue line . Here they had to make the line faster. And yeah thats true, it will be a game changer.
good news
Welcome back TMRG. Some good news of the Delhi Metro after a long gap.
Question: why is the Commission of Railway Safety under the Ministry of Civil Aviation? Should it not be under the Ministry of Railways?
This done to ensure that the CRS is independent of the Ministry of Railways.
Like in case there is an accident and CRS needs to investigate the issue, they should not be under pressure from Ministry of Railways to give a judgment which is favorable to the latter under duress or pressure.
Welcome back. Have good journey.
when will entire yellow line start????
(Samaypur Badli to Siraspur)
inching closer to that 300 km mark . Should be able to achieve that by the end of this year with most of the reaches of pink line also opening by September-October
Not a single news of magenta line CMRS inspection since morning. Is it not happening or people (including the media) have become least interested on this item?
I still remember how it made news in Bangalore, Kochi and Hyderabad. What has happened to Delhi Metro? Its twitter account is almost dead.
As reported in Rashtriya Sahara, Hindi News paper of Delhi inspection started yesterday and will complete tomorrow i.e. 10.05.18.
Thanks for the information. It’s strange though, as this time even a google search of any new about the inspection gives zero result !
True. I am also googling out every hour. I come to know through dmrc website media link. Although after sharing link, article seems to have been removed. But since details of newspaper was there so I search out that news paper. Boss I am equally as you. For last few weeks everything seems to be happening in a secret way. This was not the case when pink line portion was opened on 14.03.18. Everyday we we’re getting news about development. This time Mr. TMRG also seems to be not in mood on regular basis. I travel regularly from faridabad to south Delhi for 60-70 km by my car. I am bearing cost and also getting struck in traffic. Even a single day is heavy after getting to know that metro is ready to launch. Now it has become very tough to wait.

we all sailing in same boat. I am also travelling from Gurgaon to Noida 42 km each side and 84 km day by car with heavy traffic. Eagerly waiting for this line. i think this is the first thing in my life am waiting like anything.
today is the last day of the said inspection of the magenta line… lets see maybe this weekend or by next week they might opdn the line. i am also waiting for this line to open.
Lets hope we get some good news by the end of this week.
Any update on inspection of Magenta line. Today is last day of inspection.
Dear DMRC, please give some good news on Magenta line opening. Please open it asap without any waiting time.
So strange….! not a single piece of news on a well publicised scheduled 3 days inspection of an important metro line which have been eagerly waited by lakhs of people. Or is or like … no inspection took place at all…? :/ , how can such an important event be carried out in such a secretive manner like never before? The strange part is the complete blackout from in media…;/
God knows you wants to maintain that much secrecy and for what purpose?
Well it is not a secret. The inspection has been completed and it has been published in few news articles. The final date of opening will be decided when the inspection report is received and condition present in it (if any) are fulfilled.
Media houses usually cover metro opening events and not inspection events, However, I am surprised as to why TMRG has not covered this event. He used to do in the past.
Sorry media houses covered the news of inspection of each day of inspection previously in the case of other lines. The inspection of Magenta line’s B Garden to Kalkaji station, part of Pink Line etc were covered by multiple media houses and DMRC also came out with their own news update. However this time the only news was that of TOI, where it was only written, the 3 days inspection has been completed without any details, no pictures and nothing literally. The rest of the article are all information about the line and its utility. The rest of the media houses quot es the same news of TOI. Surprisingly DMRC has also not come out with an official report this time. not even on their website. ;/. Any way i hope this line opens in a matter of days.
The Botanical garden to kalkaji line was covered widely by media house because it was the opening of a new line of phase 3, Further it was the first time the UTO Trains and new Coaches of Hyundai Rotem with extra features was being launched.
I agree with Robin…
Earlier Media was INVITED to publicize the line inspection too and updated … Opening of line was hyped as if UP and Delhi are going to be merged and politics was given backseat and ‘public interest’ is primary…
This time nothing… It is obvious from the letter that inspection is scheduled… But not even a photo leaked …
According to me, in addition to inspection on the tracks and systems which may be finished, more infrastructure in stations/ platforms are yet to be completed… DMRC may fear that if publicly announced, it would be under pressure to commission the line immediately which would delay in finishing such amenities/ infrastructural facilities, when public around the platforms …
Also, the rest of the entire stretch is planned in a single go…. so, DMRC may also need adequate staff in all stations in all fields, ticketing, security, technical, management… which may take some time…
so, this inspection would have been completed hush hush without any media intervention… Or it has not happened at all ????
Any way hoping for opening it soon…
Dear Mr. RojaRaju. I agree with you on all things except one that you are still doubting that whether inspection has happened or not? Now it has been widely reported in many news paper that inspection had been concluded. I don’t think every body would lie.
Some news!TOI today had an article which said that inspection concluded yesterday and report is expected to come in following days
Thanks Harsh. Glad to hear that.

What is the tentative date of opening of remaining sections of Pink Line ?? As of now, the trains are moving with a time gapnof 8 mins.
Mid May has come and gone. No news when this line is going to be open
Good News. CMRS gave nod. Will start soon. See link…. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/janakpuri-west-kalkaji-mandir-metro-section-gets-approval-to-start-passenger-services/articleshow/64176179.cms
Perhaps TOI is the only media house DMRC contacts for everything of late. The report is very unsatisfying as the previous report of CMRS inspection.
Not only reported in TOI. Reported in many news.
Dear TMRG, waiting for letter of approval, which you always share. It will also contain the detail of last date by which DMRC has to start service.
I think it will start on 15 August and inauguration will be done by any guest invited from other country.
No Amol. Itni andher gardi nahi hai Aaj ke India me. It will definitely start in this month itself or maximum to maximum in rare case by next month.
Hope it will be true, i said it by looking at magenta line first phase inauguration, it was ready for 2 months but delayed as it was to be celebrated as an event. Same should not happen with this section. Let’s hope for good.
The first section of magenta line was delayed due to gujarat elections which kept the PM busy and also the DMRC wanted the line to get inagurated on 25 dec as it was 15th anniversery of delhi metro operations..although I personally believe it is wrong. I am sure they wont do these kind of things this time.
Hope that much delayed will not happen this time. Pink line portion was opened only 5 days after CMRS approval without PM. This segment is also not likely to be opened by PM.
But 15th August as thought by Anmol is too far. Even if you see letter of approval shared by TMRG today. On last page latest date of opening can be 30th June. Otherwise DMRC will again have to approach CMRS for fresh approval.
In 25 december opening approval was granted on 20th November and approval letter was containing last date of 31st Dec
The date is set.. 24 may

It is really strange that no one from the media has reported this……
It is reported now by TOI.
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/magenta-line-to-open-this-week/articleshow/64249597.cms
Another update.. TOI reports that that line will be inaugurated on 28 May and will open for public on 29 May
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/delhi-metro-magenta-line-janakpuri-west-kalkaji-mandir-section-opens-for-public-from-may-29/articleshow/64254511.cms
This is formal announcement. Now our much awaited line is opening for us on 29.05.2018. Great!!!!.
Lets hope this is the final deadline and is not extended further. People have waited too long for this line.
I think this kind of inauguration program has never posponed in history of Metro.
