CMRL Invites Bids for Chennai Metro’s Porur – Poonamallee Section

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) today invited bids for the construction of a 7.945 km elevated section from Porur Junction to Poonamallee Bypass of Chennai Metro’s new 26.09 km Line-4 which will connect Light House with Poonamallee Bypass through 30 stations.

Besides a viaduct, this section (Package C4-ECV-02) consists of 9 stations and a depot-line to a train maintenance depot at Poonamallee, and is the second elevated package of Line-4 on the the upcoming 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project.

Back in July, CMRL invited bids for a 7.955 km elevated section (Package C4-ECV-01) for Line-4, integrated with Line-5 for roughly 4.2 km, between Power House and Porur Junction on Arcot Road.

The tender notice is not yet on CMRL’s website. I’ll add a link here whenever it goes live.

Tender: CMRL/PHASE II/CORRIDOR 4/C4-ECV-02

Brief Scope: Construction of Elevated Metro Stations At Construction of Elevated Metro Stations at Chennai bypass crossing, Ramachandra Hospital, Iyyapanthangal Bus Depot, Katupakkam, Kumanan Chavadi, Karayan Chavadi, Mullai Thottam, Poonamallee Bus Terminus, Poonamallee Bypass & associated viaduct from chainage 17982.240 to chainage 25928.186 and approach to depot at Poonamallee & all associated works

This section of Line-4 will be partly financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) through a $356.65 million (approx. Rs. 2700 crore) loan. The loan’s concept review was approved on December 13, 2019, and an appraisal decision is planned to be taken in September 2020.

With this development, tender notice(s) of Line-4 are now only pending for its 10.07 km underground portion connecting Light House with Meenakshi College. Until now, a total of 4 packages for Phase 2 have reached the bidding stage:
