L&T Completes Testing TBM Avni at Bangalore Metro’s Shivajinagar

After commissioning Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Urja in July, engineers from Larsen & Toubro today completed site acceptance tests (SAT) on TBM Avni at Shivajinagar Station for building tunnels on the 21.386 km Line-4 (Reach 6 / Pink Line) of the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project.

This Ø6.67m slurry machine (DZ669) was dispatched from TBM manufacturer China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (CRCHI)’s plant in Changsha after completing factory acceptance tests (FAT) in November 2019. The machine’s parts arrived in the city in February and workers began lowering them into the station’s southern-end in May.

Per the tunneling plan, this TBM along with TBM Lavi, lowered earlier in July, will be deployed exclusively for building the 2.755 km package RT-02’s 2141 meter twin tunnels between Shivaji Nagar – MG Road – National Military School (formerly Vellara Road).

A commissioning date for the machine’s launch towards MG Road Station (see images from July) has not yet been revealed – I’ll add it here whenever it is.

Update from MG road station. Excavation of the station box is going on at brisk pace. Most of the excavated soil looks like alluvial or clay type soil. From the looks of it, hard rock was not present in the station box. Fingers crossed for the remainder of the station box and song the tunnel line.

At Rashtriya Millitary School (Vellara) station concrete deck on one side of the road is done and started on the other side. Piling for the D-wall along the water tank (by L&T) and southern side by (Afcons) seems to have begun.

There was news about rinfra selling stakes of mmopl last week and today mmrda published tender for consultant monitoring operations of metro line 1. Is this related with takeover ?

How is this relevant here? Why don’t you post your query on Mumbai update threads?

Rohit – yup, definitely related. Appointment of consultant is for due diligence to show an auditor or CAG that they did their homework prior to taking over operations.
