Jakson & Blue Star Awarded Kolkata & Mumbai Metro’s E&M Contracts

Last week, Jakson Group and Blue Star Limited were awarded two separate contracts for Electrical & Mechanical works at 7 elevated stations of Kolkata Metro’s 29.05 km Line-6 (New Garia Kavi Subhash – Airport), 4 elevated stations of the 15.215 km Line-3 (Joka – Esplanade), and 5 underground stations of Mumbai Metro’s 33.5 km Line-3 / Aqua Line (Cuffe Parade – Aarey Colony).

After civil works, which are not yet over at either location, Electrical and Mechanical work is the next step to make the stations ready for operations and typically includes lighting control, fire detection and fire fighting systems, plumbing systems, and SCADA.

On August 26, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) awarded Jakson Group with a Rs 68.84 crore contract for E&M works at Kolkata Metro Line-6’s Barun Sengupta, Beliaghata, Gour Kishore Ghosh, Nicco Park, Salt Lake Sector V, Technopolis and Biddhannagar stations, and Line-3’s Behala Bazar, Taratala, Majerhat, and Mominpur Stations.

RVNL had invited bids for this package in May 2020 with an estimate of Rs 75.91 crore and completion period of 30 months. The next lowest bidder was Larsen & Toubro which placed a slightly higher bid of Rs. 69.44 crore.

On August 27, Blue Star Limited announced in a BSE filing it had won the E&M contract straight from Dogus-Soma JV, the civil contractor for Mumbai Metro Line-3’s 5.06 km package UGC-03 (Mumbai Central – Worli). The Rs 149 crore contract includes E&M works at Mumbai Central, Mahalaxmi, Science Museum, Acharya Atra Chowk and Worli underground stations.

Since this was a direct B2B contract, details are not available on when bids were invited (if at all), what the estimate was and what the completion period is.
